Benita comes from a family of sewists, with a passion for the craft spanning three generations. With over 20 years of sewing experience, Benita has created garments for her children from when they were young. She learned stretch sewing at TAFE to expand her skills. Benita currently teaches children to crochet and loves seeing them create. Benita's enthusiasm for helping children discover the joy of creating something with their own hands makes her classes both fun and educational.
Is your child eager to learn a new skill? Join us for an exciting sewing class where kids will create their very own emoji cushion!
Class Details:
  • Age: 13 and above
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Cost: $65 per child

In this hands-on workshop, children will choose and cut the pattern they want, then learn to sew the facial features onto the cushion. They will learn basic sewing techniques using a sewing machine, also hand stitching after they have stuffed the cushion.
Students are encouraged to bring their own machine if possible, to learn on their specific machine. If not, there are two sewing machines available for them to use. One is a Singer Heavy Duty, the other is my tried and true Janome My Style that I have had for many years. It was recently serviced with a new motor.
Supervision: All children will be closely supervised by the instructor throughout the class, especially when using sewing machines.
Machine safety: Children will be taught proper sewing machine operation and safety procedures before using them.
Needle handling: Include information about safe handling of needles and pins.
Scissors safety: Children will be instructed on the correct way to handle and pass scissors.
What to Expect:
  • Introduction to sewing machine basics and safety
  • Cutting and preparing fabric
