What is a Trigger Point?
A trigger point is a small, tight area within muscle tissue that can cause pain, stiffness, and restricted movement. Sometimes referred to as "knots, " trigger points can create discomfort not only where they are located but also in other parts of the body through referred pain. Left untreated, they may contribute to common postural imbalances such as neck stiffness, shoulder tension, and lower back pain.
What is Acupressure?
Acupressure is an ancient healing art rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. By applying pressure to specific acupoints along the body’s meridian pathways, practitioners help to stimulate the body’s natural energy flow, promoting relaxation, improved circulation, and overall well-being. Unlike acupuncture, which uses needles, acupressure is entirely manual—making it an accessible and powerful tool for massage therapists.
How Do Trigger Point Therapy and Acupressure Relate?
While trigger point therapy focuses on releasing muscle tightness from a Western clinical perspective, acupressure enhances treatments by addressing the energetic connections that run through the body. Combined, these two approaches provide a comprehensive system that treats both the physical and energetic aspects of pain and dysfunction.
This integration allows therapists to:
  • Identify and release muscular tension at its source
  • Stimulate meridian points to restore balance and flow
  • Deliver more effective, holistic treatments with lasting results
That’s exactly why we’ve designed this unique Trigger Point & Acupressure Course—to give practitioners the best of both worlds.
The benefits of Trigger Point & Acupressure Point Therapy:
Along with their ability to help treat a variety of pains, patients experience additional benefits of trigger point therapy and acupressure point massage. It is a deeply relaxing experience and—like other types of massage—can help with:
  • Relieving stress, tension, and anxiety
  • Improving sleep
  • Relaxing muscles and joints
  • Soothing the pain and discomfort of a sports or other injury
  • Reducing digestive issues
  • Minimising headaches
  • Alleviating chronic pain
The therapy stimulates the body’s circulatory, lymphatic, and hormonal systems. It also helps the function of the immune system and the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
