What you'll do
Looking for unique things to do in Brisbane? Experience the fun of painting with yarn using tufting guns!
We provide:
- A supportive environment and expert guidance
- All tools and materials for the day including electric tufting guns, frames to accommodate 80cm x 80cm rugs, backing fabric and 100% NZ wool rug-yarn
Our rug making classes are totally beginner-friendly and are as fun as they are addictive! Come along and enjoy the colour and textures of pure new wool as we transform ideas and designs into beautiful tactile rugs and wall hangings worthy of display.
This class really sets you up with the knowledge you need to continue at home and create your own rug empire. You will be endlessly surprised at the power and possibilities of fluff!
What we'll cover:
- Tools and maintenance
- Material and yarn
- Frames and fabric stretching
- Discover correct techniques and enjoy the process
We will guide you through the process of preparing, tufting and finalising pieces ready to enjoy as rugs and/or wall hangings.
Suitable for everyone regardless of knowledge, experience or ability.

Beginner-friendly. This course is designed for all levels.
What you'll get
- Use of authentic tufting machines, primary tufting fabric and rug yarn made specifically for tufting.
- You will leave with your own 100 per cent NZ wool handmade rug.
- Access to discounts on fabric, 100 per cent rug-yarn and tufting tools
What to bring
- Everything needed for tufting is provided on the day.
- There is a small kitchenette available with tea and coffee facilities.
- There is parking available and wheelchair access throughout
- Dress for comfort but avoid loose-flowing sleeves and wear closed-toe shoes.

Tuft City was founded in 2020 by Brisbane artist/muralist Benjamin Reeve.
With a degree in Visual Arts and a Masters in Creative Advertising, Benjamin was set to complete his Doctorate as the world started closing its doors.
No longer able to continue his research, teach or paint outdoors, Benjamin discovered a 'tufting' video on TikTok and his love of fibre arts, an area first discovered as a child growing up in Papua New Guinea, was rekindled.
Compelled to learn everything he could about rug-making, Benjamin set to work gathering all the supplies and tools needed and now works hand-in-hand with factories and suppliers promoting rug-making and ensuring accessibility for all Australian creatives.
