  • 5/5 from Tyler Mannix, attended Jul 2026: Atmosphere was top tier, there is so much knowledge and passion behind the instructor. It was good to see that reflected into his work and teachings. 10/10
  • 5/5 from Joe Davies, attended Jun 2026: Shaun is a great teacher, ran through everything comprehensively and offered great critique on my technique and skills... walked out of the course feeling much more confident in my TIG skills and being able to pinpoint where I was going wrong.
  • 5/5 from John Moriarty, attended May 2026: Amazing class! I had been trying to learn at home with YouTube videos and online sources for the last month and this class saved me months of self learning time and trial and error. He's a fantastic, teacher with experience training Tafe classes and professionals. Since the class I'm laying down the first good welds I've ever done at home. I can't recommend this class enough.
  • 5/5 from Adam Henderson, attended Apr 2026: Great class. Teacher was amazing. Very informative. If you are wanting to learn how to do tig welding, this is the course for you.
  • 5/5 from Shohei Koyama, attended Mar 2026: Very informative thank you!
  • 5/5 from Ben Moller, attended Mar 2026: If you want a starting point for your journey into Tig welding you would be lucky to find a better course. Shaun provides all the info you need to start as well as making you feel extremely comfortable in the process. Great course and Trainer I would highly recommend
  • 5/5 from Murray Jones, attended Mar 2026: You learn so much faster with a good coach than trying to teach yourself with online videos
  • 5/5 from Aaron Senior, attended Mar 2026: This tig class is brilliant. Learnt so much in just a few hours and Shaun the teacher really knows his stuff.
  • 5/5 from Sian Roberts, attended Jan 2026: I had zero knowledge before this course and I learned SO MUCH! Even if I never weld again I now have understanding and appreciation of the skills required, and understanding of some of the process of fabrication. Shaun is a very kind and patient teacher and was very encouraging. The course was partly theoretical and partly practical. If you are not someone with lots of work gear I would recommend covering up properly with thick clothes as I got a little Uv ‘sunburn’ through a linen shirt which would have been fine in the sun but if I did this again I’d wear more protective clothing.
  • 5/5 from Marc Ferris, attended Oct 2025: Great class, Shaun really knows what he’s talking about & takes the time to fully explain the processes for beginners and more experienced welders, all in all well worth the money for all skill levels.
  • 5/5 from Michael Djukic, attended Sep 2025: Absolutely fantastic class. I am a rank beginner. This was literally the first timme I have ever used a TIG welder, and by the end of the class, I was producing functional (and occasionally very nice looking) welds in mild steel, stainless and aluminium. Shaun is a brilliant instructor and his assistant Bob is super friendly and supportive. I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to get a solid hold on the very useable mechanics of TIG welding.
  • 5/5 from Dave Coetsee, attended Sep 2025: Beginner TIG class held by Shaun at Blackstar Fabrications was awesome! This class was designed perfectly for those who are starting from scratch with zero TIG experience. Shaun is patient, easy going and flexible with different learning styles and speeds. Highly recommended for anyone who wants the basics from a skilled TIG instructor. Thoroughly enjoyed the day! I'll definitely be going back for the next available courses.

I’ve been working in metal fabrication and TIG welding for over 22 years, with a background that spans structural and marine fabrication, high-end pharmaceutical work, and defence industry welding using exotic materials. Along the way, I also developed a passion for sculptural and artistic metalwork — I love the blend of technical precision and creative expression that welding allows.
Teaching came naturally to me. In my roles within industry I became an advanced trainer in my field in Western Australia, and have guided hundreds of students through the welding process, from first-time torch users to advanced welders chasing certifications. I hold formal qualifications in fabrication and coded welding, and take pride in aligning all training with real industry standards.
I’m passionate about showing people that welding is more than sparks and steel — it’s about focus, patience, and pride in what you create. Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or looking to launch a welding career, my goal is to help you build real skills in a supportive, hands-on environment.
