Ready to trade your keyboard for a lump of clay? Step into the studio for an extended 2.5-hour workshop designed to give you a full, hands-on introduction to the world of ceramics.
This isn't a rushed "taster" session—it’s a deep dive into the two primary ways we shape clay into art. Whether you're looking for a meditative new hobby or just a fun, tactile escape, this workshop offers the perfect balance of education and play.
In this session, we don’t limit you to just one method.
You’ll spend time exploring both major styles of pottery:
  • Wheel Throwing: Experience the magic of the potter’s wheel. You’ll learn how to work with the spinning motion to pull up walls and shape the clay into functional forms like bowls or cups. It’s a captivating process of coordination and flow.
  • Hand Building: Discover the grounded, sculptural side of pottery. Using ancient techniques like pinching and coiling, you’ll learn how to build pieces from the ground up. This method allows for endless personalisation and unique, organic textures.
Why the 2.5-hour format?
Pottery is a practice of patience. By giving ourselves an extra hour over the standard introductory class, we remove the "rush." You’ll have the luxury of time to experiment, refine your surfaces, and truly sink into the sensory experience without watching the clock.
Workshop booking and quota policy:
  • Behind every workshop is a lot of unseen love and labour. To cover the fixed costs that keep our studio running—including instructor pay, materials, class prep, scheduling, and admin organisation—we are unable to offer cancellations or cash refunds once a spot is booked.
  • Our one-off workshops require at least four participants on weekdays and five participants on weekends to cover our instructors and materials. If the workshop doesn't reach the minimums, we will contact you asap to find a workshop that suits your schedule.
  • If we have to shift your date, your booking turns into a permanent studio credit. There is no rush to reuse it. We will work closely with you to find a future workshop that perfectly matches your availability and has a confirmed group of makers ready to throw some clay!
What you'll get
  • Unlimited use of clay, tools and the professional firing of your best work
  • You can make as many pieces as you would like on the wheel. One wheel-thrown and one hand-built piece are included in the class.
  • You can buy any additional pieces you’d like to be glazed and fired for $10 each.
