Where We Find Poetry
Is poetry always about lamenting lost love or gazing in wonder at nature? These are, of course, excellent poetic subjects, but there are so many more!
In this fun and stimulating workshop, award-winning poet Emilie Collyer will share heaps of ways into writing poetry, lighting up your imagination and confidence. The workshop will also include introductions to a few key poetic forms, including sonnets and haiku. Connect with all the elements of life that can be wonderful poetic fodder and come away with the beginnings of several new poems.
This workshop is suitable for beginners. Emilie facilitates a warm and welcoming environment where all ideas are encouraged. Everybody has poetry in them, and this workshop will help you tap into your unique voice.
During this transformative beginner's poetry workshop, you will learn to craft poetry inspired by the diverse encounters you have in the world around you. From personal emotions to societal influences, you will explore how to express a range of feelings through your writing.
By the end of the workshop, you will take home a collection of your own poems, each a reflection of your individual perspective and experiences. Unleash your poetic potential and uncover the beauty of your own words.

WRITING & EDITING WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
Ridiculously fun
Unashamedly lowbrow
Naarm (Footscray)
BWC was born out of a desire to write with freedom and wild abandon … to write and create with no limitations, judgement, or self-imposed barriers.
We all have the right to suck … in fact, we MUST suck on the way to becoming GOOD!
It takes bravery to keep going when it feels like everything that comes out is utter rubbish … but there’s a reason we call it a writing PRACTICE.
Good writing comes with time and repetition, but it can be a really hard and lonely experience, so we created BWC.
A place for all kinds of writers to be together, try things, make mistakes, learn stuff, and have a massive amount of fun in the process.
BWC is more than a writing club. It’s a place to suck in safety, while growing, stretching yourself to be better, and surrounding yourself with folks who get it.
