Remember the good old days of analogue communication? Or maybe that was before your time? Either way, we’ve got good news: we’re bringing back snail mail with stamps, seals, scissors, and a whole lot of heart.
In this 2.5-hour session, the incredibly talented multidisciplinary artist Valeria D’Agostino invites you to join her in reviving the delightful and dormant art of personal mail. This class focuses on slowing down, being present, and spending time curating a postcard or letter for someone you love, with the intention of fostering human connection through creativity.
- We all know how good it feels to receive a package, and it’s even sweeter when it isn’t something you bought for yourself. The goal of this workshop is to warm the heart of the recipient through sentiment, whether it’s for a special occasion, a show of gratitude, or just a spontaneous act of love.
- You’ll have access to an incredible array of salvaged and reclaimed papercraft materials, some of which Valeria has been archiving for years, from old books to joss paper, washi tape, and gold-foiled bits of ephemera. You’ll curate your own beautiful and unique postcard or letter, and learn how to make your own envelope from scratch. You’ll even get to finish off your creation ye-olde-fashioned way, using a traditional brass wax seal.
- Everyone will receive 2 Australian postage stamps and a list of nearby post boxes, so your creation won’t just sit in a drawer, but instead will bring joy to your loved ones, near or far. And who knows, it might even inspire a reply in return!
Please note: This class requires at least 5 students to run. In the unlikely event that we don't get this number of students, we'll cancel the class and fully refund you and inform you via email, so please watch your email a few days prior to the class
- All materials and tools: a curated archive of salvaged papers, plus scissors, craft knives and mats, glue sticks, double-sided tape, rulers, and pens - Envelope and postcard templates - Use of wax and a traditional brass seal to finish your piece - Australian postage to mail one domestic item and a map of nearby post boxes
Read more details   - The postal address for your recipient
Optional things to bring, if you’d like to:
- Personal paper bits: photos or photocopies, ticket stubs, notes, magazine clippings, stickers, washi or deco tapes - Small flat keepsakes: pressed flowers, ribbons or string, fabric scraps (flat and dry only) - Your favourite pens or markers, and reading glasses if you use them
