This thoughtfully paced session brings together hand-built ceramics and the grounding ritual of matcha - inviting you to sip, sculpt and settle into the moment.

Hosted in our light-filled Fremantle studio, Matcha & Mug Making is an intentional, sensory pottery workshop designed for slowing down and creating with care. Guided by Tess from Swiirl Studio, this carefully paced experience blends mindful matcha preparation with hands-on hand-building techniques.

You’ll have time and space to shape and refine your own ceramic mug in a calm, supportive studio environment. Beginner-friendly yet elevated, no prior experience is required - just a desire to create something meaningful.

  • Pinch, coil and Slab construction to create a lidless keep cup or matcha mug
  • Hand-building and refining techniques

  • Each workshop ticket includes firing and glazing for ONE item only.
 If a student would like to keep additional pieces, it’s $30 per item, which covers firing and glazing costs
  • There is a 6-8 weeks turnaround for all pottery to be fired and glazed. Finished pieces must be collected within 4 weeks of completion (12 weeks following workshop)
  • Due to the handmade nature of ceramics, occasional kiln breakages may occur - this is a natural part of the process

What experience do I need?
None at all! This workshop is perfect for complete beginners. You’ll be gently guided through each step by our friendly facilitators - no pottery experience required, just curiosity and a willingness to get creative.
What will I make?
You’ll hand-build one matcha mug using beginner-friendly clay techniques. It’s a mindful, hands-on experience where you can personalise your mug’s shape, texture and finish.
Do I get to take my mug home on the day?
Not quite! Your piece will be dried, fired and glazed in a beautiful speckled satin finish at our Fremantle studio. This process takes about 6–8 weeks, and you’ll receive a collection notice when it’s ready.

Where do I collect my mug?
All pottery is fired and finished at our Fremantle studio, and pieces are available for collection within 4 weeks of firing completion. Even offsite/Subiaco sessions must be collected from our Fremantle studio. (No postage available.)
What if my piece breaks during firing?
While we take the greatest care with every piece, pottery can be unpredictable and occasional breakages do happen inside the kiln. It’s a rare part of the process but completely normal in ceramics - it’s all part of the handmade charm!

Can I book this as a private or corporate workshop?
Yes! We offer private bookings and corporate team sessions across Perth. Get in touch to plan your creative team day! Please note there is a 10-person minimum for all private bookings.
Can I still book a private workshop with less than 10 people?
Yes! We can still go ahead with the session with less than 10 attendees, but we will charge the minimum number.
Where is the workshop held?
Workshops are hosted at our light-filled Happy Hub Collective studio in Fremantle. Offsite/mobile if you want the session brought to you (travel fees apply).
Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourselves - we’ve got everything else covered! You’re welcome to bring snacks or nibbles if you’d like a little something to enjoy while you create.
What if we want to make more than 1 x pottery item?
1 Complimentary firing and glazing is included. If you wish to keep additional creations, a $30 charge per piece is applicable to cover firing and glazing.
