Introductory Linocutting Workshop

Learn how to make art using linocutting techniques

3 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests       $80

Looking for fun things to do in Melbourne with friends? Why not try something new and check out this beginner-friendly linocutting workshop!
In this class, you will learn how to carve lino and print by hand and press. You'll learn about carving, inking, paper choice, and considerations when choosing a design to create. Small classes with a maximum of 4 people means individualised attention.
The great thing about linocut is the wide variation of style and contrast that can be achieved by switching up the different tools you use!
In the class, your teacher will talk you through some some different ways to print at home without a press.
First, you'll draw design (come with some ideas) Then you'll learn how to carve your plate with your own design. Once you've finished carving you'll do a test print to get the inking just right and then produce a small edition of prints to take home.
Reignite your passion for making art at this linocutting workshop in Melbourne and learn some new tips to continue this art form at home too!

  • 5/5 from George Codsi, attended Sep 2026: Enjoyable and relaxed workshop. Created the linocut and printed it 3 ways, so walked away with the linocut and 6 different prints. Easier that I thought, and the prints looked great. But remember to bring a few printed A5 (half a standard A4 sheet) sized designs to create your linocut from.

Kaya is a fabulous teacher and we all walked away with a product to be proud of - she was patient, informative and encouraging; not to mention very generous in sharing her expertise/experience. Like all good craft classes, the conversation was flowing amongst strangers. Thank you Kaya for a fun afternoon.

  • 5/5 from Chloe Macmillan, attended May 2025: Kaya was a great teacher - gave us everything we needed to make beautiful linocut prints. Very chill vibe, all materials provided, and awesome results. Highly recommend!
  • 4/5 from Millicent Troon, attended May 2025: Kaya was clearly very knowledgable and passionate about Linocutting. It was a good starting point to understand basic processes in linocutting. The class was held at a private residence, which was not sign posted and a little difficult to find. It was only when I spotted art tools at the window sill that I realised I had the right address. I did find barking pet dog a little distracting, perhaps some background music would be nicer. Class went for 2hrs, not 3 as advertised. Learned about tools and products to use. Would have liked some more instruction on cutting techniques and how to obtain certain effects, there is definitely some skill involved. I was quite happy with my finished piece, although I think I should have kept it simpler.
  • 5/5 from Siyun Huang, attended Apr 2025: Kaya is very lovely and patient teacher! I really love the class.
  • 5/5 from Laura Phypers, attended Mar 2025: The teacher was great and I loved the class and my final result.
  • 5/5 from Laura Thomas, attended Mar 2025: A wonderful, relaxed class that does an excellent job at teaching the basics. Our teacher was very patient and knowledgeable and provided great feedback during the whole process. Would definitely recommend!
  • 5/5 from Brittany Grantham, attended Feb 2025: Awesome class, thank you!
  • 4/5 from Mikayla Draper, attended Feb 2025: Our teacher was passionate, friendly, and helpful. She showed us all of her designs to help us with our own. She gave us each a A6 piece of lino that we drew our design on, and then showed us the tools and gave us scrap lino to practice before starting. Once our designs were done, we did a practice print, and then she showed us how we can print from the lino stamp in 3 different ways - with the print press, and two hand pressing. We then got to choose what type of print we wanted for the shiny paper. At the end of the class, she did a ghost stamp to dry our lino stamp. We then left with our lino stamp and 5 prints from our lino stamp. Definitely would recommend, made us want to do lino printing more often.
  • 5/5 from Bonney Corbin, attended Jan 2025: A lovely workshop, walking away with an A5 lino cut and a series of cute prints on different types and forms of paper. It packs a lot of learning into a short time, great value and makes for a colourful afternoon. The venue is an artsy ground floor room in the host's house, which feels like a creative and kind space.
  • 4/5 from Olga Kustova, attended Jan 2025: Linocut printing is a lot of fun! Kaya was very helpful, and demonstrated different printing techniques. As someone who never did linocutting before, it would be great to get some theoretical knowledge on linocutting as a technique, on it's history or about the artists working in this style.
  • 2/5 from Bill, attended Jan 2025: -small room -very hot in own house
  • 5/5 from Nicole Soden, attended Nov 2024: Information and relaxed class. The small class size enabled enough one-on-one support. Really useful to have lots of different tools available for carving. Completely one linocut and printed using different techniques. The hand printing method is easily achievable at home
