1/5 from Camille Mulder, attended Sep 2024: When we booked this event we were under the impression that it would be a group of individuals, receiving good quality materials, and being taught what to do by a knowledgeable teacher. I would not consider any of our expectations met. We booked to join in this class as a group of three. My daughter and I arrived at the same time. The friend who was also booked to attend got the wrong time and was rather late. When my daughter and I arrived we were greeted and directed to a bench in the corner of the studio with only two chairs. We were given an explanation of the number of decorations we had paid for and the system for upgrading. We were also shown a bank of draws containing the decorations before being left with a trainee to supervise us. We were asked what we wanted to make. While there were multiple options listed on the website only a few examples were pictured. We were not shown our options. This is despite the fact that we mentioned we had not decided yet. We ended up guessing what the available bases would be like based on our imaginations. We noticed that some of the materials were damaged, or had bits of the coloured glue attached suggesting they were being reused. The bench was rather small and we ended up needing to rearrange some of the objects so we would not be in each other’s way. It was a good thing that our final member was running late as I do not believe it would have been comfortable for all three of us to work there. Especially since there were only two chairs. We were instructed to select a coloured binding agent from a display and given a very small demonstration of how to apply it. The binding agent was pre-separated into small piping bags. Again, these were obviously reused as they were half empty and partially dried out. A passing staff member (not the trainee supervising us) ended up offering some advice as she noticed my daughter struggling. The reason she was struggling was her bag was over half empty, partially dry, and not adhering well. She eventually ended up asking for a new bag and found the process much easier. When asked about colours that were present on some pre-made example items it was revealed that we had not in fact been shown all the options. However, by that point we were mostly finished and could not make many changes. Many of the decorations shown on the exemplars were also not offered to us. One of these was discovered when by accident when looking around the room and had to be asked for. There was a sink to wash our hands. However there was no paper towels or anything to keep ourselves and our workplace clean. Even the staff members ended up collecting adhesives they had spilled with their bare hands. We were also not given anything to fix any mistakes or do precision work with. With my daughter resorting to using her fingers and wiping them on a tissue (which I needed to supply). I eventually found useful tools lying nearby and no comment was made when we started using them. Overall, we were each pleased with our end result. However, the class itself was disorganised, misleading, and cannot truely be called a class. Especially considering we had to ask pointed questions to get access to many of the ‘available’ materials. I found the experience very overpriced.
5/5 from Jules Lumbers, attended May 2024: Beautiful studio, lovely staff, great workshop. My daughter loved it and is VERY happy with her new phone case. Thank you so much!!!
Polisu is the name composed of the three most important elements in arts, "point", "line", and "surface". It's not only limited to painting but also reflected in many other artworks. We put together a team of ceramicists and artists to bring you the most enjoyable way to learn pottery, tufting, drawing and other handcrafted works. We host everything from one-off pinch pot sessions to tufting classes. For larger groups, our studio can be booked out for private sessions.
