In this class, you will learn the art of wet felting to create a unique and eco-friendly journal cover using recycled fabrics. Wet felting is a process that involves matting and binding fibers together with the help of water, soap, and agitation. By repurposing old fabrics, you will not only create a beautiful journal cover but also contribute to sustainable crafting.

During the class, you will be guided through the following techniques and processes:

Laying Out Wool: You will learn how to prepare your work surface and arrange layers of wool fibers to form a sturdy base for your journal cover. The instructor will demonstrate different methods of laying out wool to achieve desired thickness and texture.

Felting Fabrics: Once the wool base is prepared, you will discover how to incorporate recycled fabrics into your design. You will learn how to position fabric scraps, cutouts, or strips on the wool surface, ensuring they adhere securely during the felting process.
Wet Felting: The instructor will guide you through the wet felting process, demonstrating how to apply water and mild soap to the wool and fabrics. You will learn various techniques for agitating and massaging the fibers to encourage bonding and felting.

Design Creation: As the wool and fabrics begin to felt together, you will have the opportunity to shape and mold the journal cover to fit your desired dimensions. The instructor will provide tips on creating patterns, textures, or even simple pictures using the different colours and textures of wool and fabric.

Drying and Embellishments: After the wet felting process, you will let your journal cover dry thoroughly. Once dry, you can further enhance your design by adding additional embellishments such as embroidery, beads, buttons, or appliqués. The instructor will share ideas and techniques for incorporating these elements to personalise your journal cover.

By the end of the class, you will have created a unique and functional journal cover using the wet felting technique and recycled fabrics.
