Whisky Tasting, Tour and Lunch Experience

Make yourself at home at Old Kempton Distillery: History tour, distillery & bond store, 4 whiskies and antipasto

2 hours Location Kempton Experience size 1 to 20 guests   $80 (Afterpay available)

Step into the world of Old Kempton Distillery, where history, craftsmanship, and flavour come together in the heart of Tasmania.

Your experience begins at the beautiful Dysart House in Kempton, a grand 1840s coaching inn that has been home to Old Kempton Distillery since 2015. Here, we craft small-batch spirits—single malt whisky, gin, and liqueurs—using only the finest 100% Tasmanian ingredients.

Your package includes a journey through time and taste: a guided tour of the house, our working distillery, the bond store where whisky quietly matures in barrels of all shapes and sizes, and our surrounding grounds. Each tour is unique, offering an insider’s look at daily life inside a boutique distillery. And keep your eyes peeled—this old house has its share of ghost stories and secrets in the walls.

After your behind-the-scenes adventure, take a seat in our elegant Cask Lounge, nestled within the cellar of the old coaching inn. Here, you'll enjoy a guided tasting of four Old Kempton single malt whiskies, paired perfectly with a Tasmanian antipasto platter for one—a delicious spread of local produce (normally valued at $90).

If whisky isn’t your only interest, we also offer tastings of our handcrafted gins and liqueurs—just let us know what you'd like to explore.

It’s more than just a tour—it’s an unforgettable experience of Tasmanian spirit, both in glass and in place.

Please note: we also offer take-home whisky packs for all designated drivers who wish to still be included on the tour.

Please note: We also make gin and liqueurs and can offer tastings of them depending on your preferences.

  • 5/5 from Laura McKane, attended Sep 2026: My husband and I had so much fun today! We came back after visiting back in 2016. The team have done such an amazing job growing in that time. Hailey was very informative and answered all our questions! It was very relaxing and a great start to our Tassie trip! Highly recommend the tour and lunch!
  • 5/5 from Bunty Grech, attended Mar 2026: What a fantastic experience. Halley was amazing. So friendly and knowledgeable. She showed us everything and told us about the history of the beautiful property as well as the business and product. Very thorough. We finished with the most amazing lunch, all local products and tasting paddles of 4 different whisky or gins each. Any we didn’t drink (cause I was driving) they put into cute little bottles for us to take home to try later. They thought of everything. Great day. Highly recommended.
  • 5/5 from Paul Grech, attended Mar 2026: I have to thank my daughter for giving us the gift voucher, then Halley our tour guide and host was wonderful with her enthusiasm for Old Kempton and her knowledge of the history and distilling process. Sharon provided a fantastic lunch platter and was only to willing to assist with anything we needed, can't recommend the tour and tasting experience enough.
  • 5/5 from Millie Elliott, attended Jun 2025: Staff were so lovely and we had such a nice time relaxing in the cosy room while we tasted whisky and gin! The lunch provided was delicious and generous, we left very happy and with a few goodies :) Definitely worth a visit!
  • 5/5 from Grishma Baidya, attended Nov 2023: The experience was so amazing, Hannah was brilliant. she really made our visit quite amazing. Would definitely recommend others
  • 5/5 from Anasthasia Fransiska, attended Aug 2023: Such a gem in a little town. John, the tour guide was very knowledgeable and so much history in the building. The cheese platter/lunch was very generous as well as the whiskey sample. Definitely worth the money and you should not leave without a bottle the Solera Cask Whiskey.
  • 5/5 from Annette Fergusson, attended Jan 2023: Most enjoyable experience. Very knowledgeable tour guide covering the distillery area. Totally enjoyed the full tasting experience and the fabulous filling antipasto plants. Well worth the time for a visit for a special occasion. In this case my birthday.
  • 5/5 from Susan Chibnall, attended Dec 2022: The venue was beautiful and the host engaging and of course the whisky and food outstanding
  • 5/5 from Garth Madsen, attended Jul 2022: What a fantastic old building to have our whisky tour, tasting and lunch in. Hannah and Hellie made us very welcome with a hot drink on arrival. We enjoyed this in amazingly plush and comfortable leather armchairs in a room full of information about the home and making spirits. We learned a lot more about how Scottish style whisky is produced and the history of Dysart House. At the tastings we could choose a paddle of 4 whiskies to taste from the 8 available and there were also gins and liqueurs for non whiskey lovers. My wife was driving so her tastings board was arranged in lovely little bottles for her to take home to enjoy and she had a tiny sip from my glasses at the time. The whiskey tastes and smells just great. We then really enjoyed a substantial anti-pasto platter in The Lavender Room, one of two rooms of their cafe. It had two large slabs of cheese, a chedder and a brie, cold roast beef, mortadella, smoked salmon, a range of pickled vegies, tomatoes fresh & dried, olives, chilli jam & picked carrot relish &, for a change, more than adequate crackers to accompany. All produce was local Tasmanian and much could be purchased from the property also. Service was attentive without being intrusive and over our leisurely, drawn out lunch we were discussing how happy we were with our whiskey tour experience, which we now thought was very good value. On leaving we could also choose a complimentary bottle from a range of local wines! Although the whiskeys are expensive we did choose to purchase a special bottle and the fragrant, aromatic gin also along with some of the pickes. We had a most enjoyable couple of hours at this marvellous property in the little town of Kempton and wish to thank Hannah and Hellie for the experience. The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day. We will take our visitors here in future. Oh, and the cafe is open without the tour. It has a limited menu which would cater for most tastes and there are gluten free options. We might pop out just for the drive and a cuppa on a pleasant day.
