Willow Nesting Ball Weaving Workshop

Weave with willow, wander with animals and give back to nature

2 hours Class size 1 to 20 guests

  $50 - $85 ($50 for Child; $85 for Adult) (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Set against the cool-climate paddocks of Oberon, this gentle, hands-on workshop invites you to slow down and create something meaningful. Guided by Jacqui at Kenzell Farm, you’ll learn simple willow weaving techniques to shape your own hanging sphere.
Once formed, you’ll softly fill it with natural alpaca fibre—gathered from our very own herd—creating a safe, biodegradable nesting aid for local birds. It’s a true field-to-forest journey: from grazing alpacas… to woven willow… back into the trees.
What you’ll do:
  • Meet and wander among the alpacas and farm animals
  • Learn foundational willow weaving techniques
  • Shape and secure your own nesting sphere
  • Fill it with soft, natural alpaca fibre
  • Take home a functional, nature-friendly piece ready to hang
Your finished sphere becomes a small act of environmental care, offering birds a natural source of nesting material long after the festival ends.
The experience
Calm. Tactile. Grounded. This is craft without rush, connection without noise. You’ll work with natural materials, breathe in open paddock air, and create something both beautiful and purposeful—very Kenzell in heart and tone.
This workshop celebrates:
  • Traditional skills
  • Sustainable materials
  • Animal connection
  • Giving back to the land
What you'll get
Light refreshments will be provided. By the end of the session, you’ll take home your own handcrafted willow nesting ball.
Knowledge required
Beginner-friendly.
What to bring
Please wear enclosed footwear. Be also prepared for four seasons in a day (we live in an alpine location).

KENZELL FARM

female Women-owned

Hi, I’m Jacqui, a maker, educator, and farm host based at Kenzell Farm in Oberon, on the edge of the Blue Mountains.
My love for working with natural materials comes from a lifetime surrounded by land, animals, and handmade traditions. What began as simple farm craft and problem-solving with wire, willow, and found materials has grown into a series of creative, hands-on workshops that celebrate slow making, sustainability, and connection to place.
Over the past few years, I’ve developed small-group experiences focused on weaving, shaping, and repurposing farm materials into functional and decorative pieces — from willow nests and sculptures to rustic wire forms and seasonal centrepieces.
