What you'll do
Want to make a fun and funky fused glass sculptural piece for your garden? This Melbourne workshop is for you!
In this class, you will have a quick introduction to the basics of glass fusing. You will then learn how to make your pieces, decide on your design and spend most of your time producing your artwork.
You have the creative freedom to choose to make a butterfly, dragonfly or any creature for your garden, which can be either a two or three dimensional piece.
Please note that if you choose to make a three dimensional sculpture, you do not have to make the body for the animal. However, if you opt for a two dimensional piece, you will have the opportunity to design the body as well, guided by your friendly teacher.
Whatever you decide, these beautiful sculptures look so wonderful in a garden or courtyard, adding a pop of colour to your outdoor space.
Please note:
- If you would like to schedule your session during weekdays we are very flexible and can accept as little as one booking during a weekday as we have capacity to work with you even if it is one-on-one. You can request to book in at 10am or at 1.30pm weekdays this way for your session.
- You will need to leave the piece at our studio to be fired. We will assemble them for you. Our turnaround time is two to three weeks.

Knowledge required
This class is targeted at people with no glass fusing skills although glass cutting skills will be an advantage. We will teach you everything you need to know to make a good piece.
What you'll get
- Includes all glass and materials for the workshop as well as the use of all tools and equipment needed to make your piece.
- Includes a wrought iron base made by sculptor Lawrence Marshall if you choose the 3D option.
- Structured workshop, small group, practical hands-on class and attention from the instructor.
- Tea/coffee and biscuits.
What to bring
- Bring a black sharpie, ruler, pen and pencil.
- If you want to wear safety glasses, you can bring your own or purchase them here online (see extras).
- Wear casual clothing and enclosed shoes.
- Bring photo examples of butterflies or dragonflies or garden creatures, depending on what you are thinking of making.

Merryl’s Mosaics and Glass Studio is a mosaic and glass fusing studio where people of all ages come to experience the wonderful world of glass art. We run adult classes, specialised workshops and casual sessions, team building workshops and corporate events in either mosaic or glass fusing. We also offer kids classes, casual sessions and holiday programs. You don’t need any experience to attend. We have great, well-trained and friendly staff who will help you with your creations. We have a great, arty studio. Come and enjoy the creative, relaxing and therapeutic experience of working with glass in an arty, colourful environment.
