Acrylic Workshop: Paint Tasmania's Poppy Fields Like Renoir

Blend light and colour in a Renoir-style acrylic workshop.

3 hours Location Prahran Class size 1 to 15 guests   $79 (Afterpay available)

Step into the world of Impressionist painting in this vibrant and hands-on acrylic art workshop, where you’ll explore the light, movement, and beauty of Tasmania’s famous white poppy fields. If you’re looking for inspiring painting classes or immersive acrylic painting workshops near you, this session offers a unique opportunity to create a joyful, expressive landscape using professional materials and timeless techniques.
Inspired by the luminous style of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, you’ll learn how to paint with soft, broken brushstrokes, build rich texture with acrylic gel mediums, and blend colour to evoke light and atmosphere. With expert instruction and live demonstration, this workshop will guide you through Renoir’s approach to composition, brushwork, and colour harmony, helping you translate the delicate beauty of Tasmania’s floral landscapes into a richly textured acrylic painting.
Working with Liquitex acrylic paints and mediums on Jasart linen boards, you’ll be encouraged to loosen your technique, experiment with layering, and embrace the spontaneous, light-filled spirit of Impressionism. Whether you’re expanding your artistic practice or looking to connect with your creativity in a supportive studio setting, this workshop provides a relaxed, engaging environment to build your skills and confidence.
All materials are provided for use during the session, just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to explore. By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a luminous, Renoir-inspired still life of Tasmania’s poppy fields and a deeper understanding of how to work with acrylics for expressive, impressionistic results.

  • 5/5 from Sunny Ahmed, attended Aug 2026: Cata is a fantastic teacher, the pace was perfect for me. The class is suitable for all levels. I look forward to joining more classes in the future.
  • 5/5 from Sarah Simmons, attended Aug 2026: Truly the best art class I have ever taken. Kata was able to differentiate her lessons for several levels of artists. I learned at least five new skills and countless tricks for painting. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
  • 5/5 from Kelly Hand, attended Feb 2026: Lovely and knowledgeable teacher and very enjoyable class. Easy step by step delivery and came out with quite a reasonable result. Big thanks to Kate, hopefully do some more classes with her.
  • 5/5 from Joyce Patricia (Trish) Shaw, attended Feb 2026: Prior preparation by the teacher was impressive (laminated sheets). Colours on the laminated sheet were numbered and explained. Having all materials ready to go (and explained) was pleasing. Teacher was friendly and guided and advised participants who ranged in their art ability (some were non-painters). Could answer all questions participants posed. e.g. acrylics vs oils, brushes... Introductions at the commencement of the workshop provided a good start. Suggestion: an excellent and detailed laminated sheet of instructions was provided - perhaps refer to this at the beginning of the class as it was an excellent resource. A talented teacher who knows the various art media well.
  • 5/5 from Anna-Jo Nicole Hruza, attended Feb 2026: Excellent class. Learnt techniques and enjoyed it. The teacher is really patient and good with all students at different levels, including beginners. Really love the painting I completed with the teacher’s assistance.
  • 4/5 from Glenda Cotterill, attended Feb 2026: Easy class ending in a painting that looked ok, esp considering the time frame. Kate was a great tutor being sure that all students received assistance. Venue and materials supplied were great.
  • 4/5 from Emma, attended Feb 2026: Today was a great class overall. I was impressed with the set up and how you could go at your own pace. We all had different confidence and experience levels, Kat was very attentive to this and adapted her teaching to what we needed as students. I would have given it five stars, but I think having an easel would have made a huge difference for painting at ease. The paints we used were lovely and I hope to purchase some in future. Thanks for a great morning. Side note... Please have some GF biscuits for the snack option for next time.
  • 5/5 from Melissa Gattoni, attended Nov 2025: The class was excellent. Catalina, the instructor, was kind and friendly, adapting quickly to a range of learning styles, making the class suitable for both beginners and advanced learners. Everyone can learn something new!
  • 5/5 from Olivia Hines, attended Nov 2025: Very relaxing morning painting with Kata. She is always so encouraging and genuine.
  • 5/5 from Jennifer Brewer, attended Nov 2025: The teacher Catalina is great, I took her watercolour botanicals class last week, and she delivered again this week. Cata has a lot of knowledge that she is happy to impart as well as a very patient nature. This acrylic workshop was a large class however she handle the class with grace and ease, giving everyone the time they needed and answering all our questions. I have never done acrylics before, and was not sure how I would go, however with I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I am looking forward to next year and more classes, hopefully Eckersley will also run more botanical watercolour classes as well, especially the Tulip and the Iris Flowers
  • 5/5 from Ursula McColl-Jones, attended Nov 2025: Excellent instruction form Catalina. Enjoyed the class and will be booking for more.
  • 5/5 from Kevin Balshaw, attended Nov 2025: This was poppy fields in the style of Renoir. Really good giving us a concept of subject and colour and all the various colour mixes. Still a bit of work to do to get mine finished. It was a bit crowded on the day and I fell a bit behind and struggled somewhat to catch up. Instructor Catalina's guidelines are really good though and will help me to refine it to get the end result I want.
  • 5/5 from Mauricio Vieira Azevedo, attended Nov 2025: The class was great from the instructor perspective Cata is amazing and great teacher love her classes. As a feed back, I think the class should not be too big also group of friends of family that book together can be a bit distracting. There was a group of 6 people together that made it feel that the class was for them and not so considering of other’s a bit too demanding and not so nice. Hence why I think big class is not so good however Cata as always was great
