Full disclosure: this isn’t always my everyday outfit—but it’s definitely my favorite! I’m your sari guide (though you’ll just as often find me in jeans or trousers). For me, the sari is where heart and heritage meet. I love showing people that these “mysterious” yards of fabric aren’t just for weddings or statues, they’re living, breathing, and surprisingly practical garments. My mission is to take the “scary” out of sari-wearing and help you feel as confident as you do in your favourite wear.

A fun fact for you… The sari is one of the world’s oldest unstitched garments still worn today!
Ever wondered how a sari actually stays up? Let’s unravel the mystery!
In this fun, hands-on class, you’ll discover the secrets behind India’s most iconic garment, the sari/saree
We’ll explore the rich culture, traditions, and textile magic woven into Indian dress before getting down to the nitty-gritty: learning how to drape your own sari without accidentally mummifying yourself.
Come curious, leave fabulous, and discover the art of wrapping six yards of elegance!
Whether you're a complete beginner or exploring traditional Melbourne textile arts, this intimate session is made for:
  • Mastering your first saree drape
  • Unique bridal shower & hen's party activities
  • Preparing for an upcoming Indian wedding
  • Celebrating Diwali in style
Come and explore a new culture, connect with your roots, or just play dress-up with purpose. We've got you!
Trusted by Community & Council:
After running large saree draping programs for local councils like Merri-bek, I wanted to bring the experience closer to home in Pascoe Vale (just a short walk from Pascoe Vale or Oak Park station). We create an intimate, hands-on, stress-free workshop where everyone gets personal guidance, strong masala chai, and plenty of laughs.
What to expect:
A warm cultural welcome over a steaming cup of masala chai and Indian biscuits
Quick tour of India’s wonderfully diverse fashion scene
Fun facts about sari history, fabrics, and regional flair
Sari Draping 101 and Advanced Styling Techniques
Live step-by-step demo
Learn to drape it yourself.... yes, it's all in the experience!
Spoiler alert: There's more than just one way to wear a saree!
Fall in love with the art? Ask us about follow-on sessions for advanced regional drapes—like the Nauvari, Seedha Pallu, or Aatpoure—to expand your styling repertoire!
Q&A and photos:
Ask anything - like sari hacks and tweaks
Strike a pose, snap a photo, and dazzle your friends
Private Group & Corporate Events
While my public workshops are kept strictly intimate (maximum of 5 guests) to avoid any tripping hazards and to ensure personalised attention at my dedicated space, I do love accommodating larger groups of 15–20 for private celebrations. For those, we switch into mobile mode and bring the entire cultural experience and all the fabric straight to your venue!

Namaste! I’m Anusha – founder of Reeti Shaala, a space to celebrate the richness of Indian culture through storytelling, traditions, and hands-on experiences. After living in different parts of the world and now calling Melbourne home, I’ve come to deeply value the role culture plays in grounding us and bringing people together. That’s what inspired me to start hosting workshops that connect us back to our roots joyfully and meaningfully. One of my most loved offerings is the Saree Draping Workshop. It’s more than just a class about fashion; it’s a celebration of heritage, identity, and the many ways a saree can be worn with confidence and pride. Growing up in India, I watched my mother and the women in my community drape sarees with such ease and elegance. Over the years, I began experimenting with different draping styles, and soon people started asking me how I did it. That curiosity became a doorway to something deeper—a chance to share this beautiful tradition in an inclusive and creative way. Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots, exploring something new, or getting ready for a festive celebration like Diwali, my classes are designed to make you feel welcome, inspired, and empowered. I’d love to have you join me in rediscovering the beauty of tradition, one pleat, one plate, and one festival at a time. @reetishala
