Before the Screen: Creative Papercraft Workshop for Teams

Before the screen, there was paper...

2 hours Class size 6 to 12 guests       $65 (PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Before the screen, there was paper.
We bound books. We collected inspiration. We wrote letters. We stamped stationery. We made cards. We developed ideas with scissors, paper, and paste.
For two hours, we're going back.
Before the Screen is a collection of hands-on papercraft workshops for teams who want to step away from technology, try something different, and rediscover the simple pleasure of making things by hand.
Inspired by the ways people once recorded ideas, communicated, designed, collected, and created, each workshop takes an old-school paper practice and gives it a playful contemporary twist.
No artistic ability is required, and there's no perfect finished piece everyone needs to reproduce.
Instead, your team gets to sit around the table, explore beautiful materials, learn something new, make something with their hands, and enjoy conversations that don't involve a meeting agenda.
Choose who you'd like to be for the afternoon...
Choose one papercraft experience for your team, and we'll have everything prepared when you arrive.
The Bookbinder — Make a Journal by Hand
Before notebooks arrived ready-made on office supply shelves, books were folded, stitched, and bound by hand.
Learn how to create your own soft-cover journal using paper, card, and thread, then personalise the cover with your choice of papers and finishing details.
You'll leave with a handmade journal ready for ideas, sketches, notes, plans, or whatever comes next.
The Journaler — Create an Inspiration Journal
Before Pinterest boards and saved folders, people collected their inspiration on paper.
Become someone else for the afternoon and create a journal inspired by a world that captures your imagination.
  • Perhaps you're The Botanist, collecting botanical illustrations, specimen labels, maps, and observations.
  • Perhaps you're The Fashion Designer, gathering fashion imagery, patterns, colour, typography, and design inspiration.
  • Or perhaps you're The Traveller, filling your pages with maps, postcards, tickets, destinations, and discoveries.
Using beautiful papers, imagery, words, pockets, tags, and ephemera, you'll create your own wonderfully individual collection of inspiration.
The Correspondent — Snail Mail & the Art of the Letter
Before texts, emails, and instant messages, receiving something through the post could be an event in itself.
Rediscover the pleasure of real correspondence as you create hand-stamped stationery and envelopes using papers, inks, stamps, and typography.
Learn how to add an old-fashioned wax seal, then put pen to paper and create something for someone worth sending.
Because sometimes a message deserves more than an emoji.
The Papermaker — Handmade Paper & Stationery
Before paper arrived in perfectly identical packets, making it was a craft in itself.
Begin with a demonstration of the handmade papermaking process and discover how humble fibres can become beautiful sheets of paper.
Then explore the wonderful textures and imperfections of handmade and recycled papers as you turn them into your own collection of stationery, cards, tags, and paper pieces.
The Visual Thinker — Create an Analogue Inspiration Board
Before Miro, Pinterest, and Canva, there were scissors, paper, and a pinboard.
Explore a collection of imagery, typography, words, maps, patterns, papers, and ephemera.
Cut them out. Move them around. Change your mind. Layer them. Rearrange them. Find unexpected connections.
Then bring your discoveries together into an analogue inspiration board based around an idea, a project, a possibility, a place — or simply the things that capture your imagination.
The Card Maker — The Art of the Handmade Card
Before e-cards, GIFs, and group messages, we marked occasions with something made by hand.
Create a collection of cards using beautiful papers, stamps, inks, imagery, typography, and traditional paper techniques.
Choose the materials that appeal to you and create cards that are completely your own.
Planning an end-of-year celebration?
Ask about The Christmas Card Maker — our festive version of the experience filled with vintage Christmas papers, imagery, stamps, ribbons, and old-fashioned festive charm.
Old crafts. New conversations.
There's something different about sitting around a table and making something together.
Hands are busy. Phones disappear. People experiment, help each other, compare discoveries, laugh at the occasional creative disaster, and start conversations that might never happen around a meeting table.
Before the Screen is designed as a relaxed alternative to traditional corporate team activities.
It's perfect for team days, workplace celebrations, staff wellbeing activities, end-of-year gatherings, or simply giving your people an excuse to step away from their screens and do something completely different together.
