Crochet is more than just a craft—it’s a powerful way to ease stress, boredom, and anxiety. In my beginner-friendly Melbourne workshop, I’ll guide you through the basics with everything you need: a hook, yarn, and hands-on know-how—all provided for you!
We’ll dive into foundational stitches and start your very own Coasters /Mug Rugs. I’ll be by your side every step of the way to answer questions and share tips. You'll also get to see finished samples for inspiration and explore the limitless possibilities of crochet once you master the basics.
With a maximum of four participants, this intimate class gives you my full attention in a cozy, relaxed setting. Whether you're crafting solo or with friends, it’s the perfect way to start your crochet journey.
What You’ll Learn:
  • How to hold your hook and yarn comfortably
  • Chain stitch, single crochet, and double crochet
  • How to read a simple pattern
  • Starting and shaping a basic granny square
  • Tips for keeping tension even and troubleshooting common mistakes
  • Where to find quality yarn and tools in Australia
By the end of the class, you’ll walk away with a beautiful handmade piece, new skills, and the confidence to keep creating.

I’m Hyoko, a crochet artist and dedicated workshop facilitator based in Melbourne. Teaching crochet is at the heart of what I do—whether it’s guiding beginners through their first granny square or helping seasoned makers discover new techniques, I thrive on creating a space that’s warm, welcoming, and filled with yarn-fueled inspiration.
Crochet is my meditative practice and my creative outlet, and I love sharing that joy with others. My workshops blend learning with laughter, giving participants a chance to slow down, connect, and leave with something beautiful made by their own hands.
If you’ve ever wanted to pick up a hook and find your flow, I’d love to show you how.
