Collection of Your Pieces

You'll be welcomed back to the studio to collect your finished pieces once they have been fired. Take a moment to appreciate how far you've come.

Take your time, get to know the wheel and build your confidence with clay over six relaxed and hands-on sessions at Sarah Schembri Ceramics in the heart of Fitzroy.
Designed especially for beginners, this six-week course gives you the time and space to properly learn the foundations of wheel throwing, develop your technique and discover the satisfaction of making something with your own hands.
Across the six sessions, you'll be guided through the fundamentals of throwing, from preparing and centering your clay through to opening, pulling and shaping. You'll learn how to create simple forms including cylinders and bowls, while gradually developing the control and confidence to make pieces that feel truly your own.
With a pottery wheel to work on throughout each session and plenty of guidance from our experienced teaching team, you'll have the opportunity to practise, experiment and refine your technique at your own pace. As your confidence grows, we'll introduce different ways to personalise your work, including carving, tissue transfers and glazing.
More than just learning how to throw, the six-week course is an opportunity to slow down, switch off and immerse yourself in the process. There's something wonderfully satisfying about watching a lump of clay gradually take shape beneath your hands, and even more so when you get to use the pieces you've made yourself.
By the end of the course, you'll have developed a solid foundation in wheel throwing, a collection of your own handmade ceramics and the skills to continue exploring the wheel with confidence. And once you've joined us for the six weeks, you may find yourself wanting to keep coming back for more.
