Alfajores are the biscuits every Latin family has an opinion about. Soft, crumbly, sandwiched with dulce de leche and finished in coconut or dark chocolate.
I'm Jen, a Venezuelan pastry chef and I'll share with you the recipe my grandmother Margot taught me in Caracas when I was a kid.
In two hours you'll make the dough, get the texture right, fill and finish your own batch and learn how the alfajor changes from Argentina to Peru to Venezuela.
Classes stay small and you bake in pairs, so there's time for every question.
Come solo, with a friend, or bring the family (12+). No experience needed. You'll leave with a box of alfajores, the confidence to make them at home and impress your family and friends.

  • The cornflour dough that gives alfajores their melt in the mouth crumb
  • How to roll, cut and bake for even, tender biscuits
  • Filling with dulce de leche and how to make it from scratch

  • 5/5 from Anna Xia, attended Sep 2023: Jen is Venezuelan and proudly demonstrates how to make her grandma’s recipe for gluten free alfajores with us today. Alfajores are delectable biscuit sweets with many variations native to the 8 countries in South America that calls them their own. Usually shared during celebrations like baptisms and weddings and highly popular with adults and children alike. We left with a great many finished with dulce de leche and rolled in desiccated coconut and also an example of one dipped in chocolate. There’s also ready to bake dough to take home. Such moreish treats, you can’t just stop at one. Perfect with a cuppa tea or coffee.

REAL FLAVOURS, REAL STORIES
A Journey from Caracas to your table
Hi, I’m Jen, the heart behind Margot & Montañez. My story starts in a little kitchen in Caracas, Venezuela, where my grandmother, Margot, first taught me that food is more than just sustenance... it’s happiness you can give.
She wasn’t just an amazing cook; she was a culinary rebel who believed the best recipes are those made with love and shared generously.
Growing up, I spent countless afternoons in her kitchen, mesmerized by her hands turning simple ingredients into magic. By the time I was twelve, I was baking alongside her, soaking in her stories and techniques. When Margot passed away at seventy-three, she left me not only her recipes but also her legacy - a deep love for creating food that brings people together.
That legacy became my compass as I traveled the world. From Venezuela to the US, Denmark, the UK, and now Australia, I carried Margot’s spirit with me, along with a suitcase packed with recipes and memories.
I started with humble alfajores, but over the years, I’ve refined my craft as a qualified pastry chef, blending traditional South American flavours with the global influences I picked up along the way.
WHAT I BRING TO THE CLASS?
As a pastry chef, I pair the techniques with the Latin desserts I grew up on. So you learn the why behind each step, not just the recipe.
Teaching and sharing desserts is also my way of keeping Margot’s spirit alive. There’s something magical about seeing someone’s face light up when they take their first bite of something they’ve made or when they nail a baking technique they thought was impossible.
Through Margot & Montañez, I’ve had the privilege of teaching hundreds of passionate foodies, hosting team-building events for small and major companies and even introducing Latin flavours to people who’ve never experienced them before.
Every recipe I teach has a story; some of them may start with Margot. Classes are small and you bake in pairs, so you’ll get real help, plenty of tasting and at least a box of something delicious to take home.
Let’s make something together that’s worth sharing.
Te espero en la cocina!
