Discover experimental print making in this hands-on botanical art workshop in Melbourne!
Led by visual artist and PhD researcher Maja Gajic, you'll learn creative printing techniques using gelli plates, leaves, flowers and organic materials to create unique monotype prints inspired by nature.
You will experiment with layering, texture, direct plant impressions and transfer-based processes influenced by contemporary printmaking and hectographic techniques. The session encourages playful experimentation and intuitive image-making rather than traditional or perfect results.
Maja’s artistic practice focuses on natural materials, print making, and organic processes, combining fine art research with hands-on experimental methods developed through years of studio practice, teaching and international exhibitions.
No previous experience is required. This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as artists and creatives interested in expanding their printmaking practice.
By the end of the workshop, you will leave with a collection of original botanical prints and a deeper understanding of print making!

I am a visual artist and printmaker (PhD in Fine Arts) whose practice spans traditional printmaking and experimental, nature-based techniques. My studio work combines fine art drawing, handmade materials, and ecological awareness, but my workshops focus on building strong, accessible skills in classic relief printmaking.
In my woodcut workshops, participants move through the full creative process:
from developing a drawing or design,
to carving the block,
and finally hand-printing their own edition of prints.
I guide participants through each stage step-by-step, with attention to line, texture, composition, tool handling, and the expressive possibilities of wood as a medium. These sessions are suitable for beginners and experienced artists alike and offer a balance of technique, creativity, and personal expression.
