Botanical Watercolour Painting Workshop

Bring fresh blooms to life with your own hand

3 hours Class size 1 to 8 guests

  $90 (Afterpay available)

Let nature be your muse in this calming, creative workshop devoted to the timeless art of botanical watercolour. Over three gentle hours, you’ll be guided through foundational watercolour techniques and learn to paint seasonal blooms with grace and confidence—no experience necessary.
Held in our studio on Brunswick Street, Fitzroy, this class is led by an experienced watercolour artist who delights in making the medium approachable, joyful, and deeply satisfying.
Each session begins with a moment of quiet awe: a fresh bouquet of in-season flowers, handpicked especially for the day’s class. From delicate daisies to blossoming waratahs, you’ll choose your favourite floral subject and learn how to translate its form, colour, and character onto paper.
Throughout the class, you’ll be gently introduced to:
  • The basics of watercolour: brush techniques, layering, wet-on-wet and dry brush styles
  • Mixing your palette and understanding colour relationships in nature
  • Observational drawing techniques to capture botanical forms
  • Building up a composition that blooms across your page
Whether you’re looking to begin your creative journey, reconnect with your inner artist, or simply spend a peaceful afternoon surrounded by paper and petals, this workshop is a delightful entry into the world of botanical painting.
You’ll leave with a completed A4 or A3 artwork—a one-of-a-kind floral illustration—and the confidence to keep painting long after the workshop ends.

  • 5/5 from Eileen Ang, attended Jun 2026: Loved the class! Gentle mindfulness, set at the back of a beautiful paperie, with tips and guidance from Rachel. Did my first drawing and water colour painting since primary school and super happy with the outcome. So inspired that I used my $20 voucher to purchase an artbook and pen from the store after class. Highly recommend the class and learning from Rachel!!
  • 5/5 from Nicole Allan, attended Jun 2026: The class was wonderful - Rachel’s technique lent itself to all being able to produce something beautiful! She is calm and clearly knowledgeable! Highly recommend!
  • 5/5 from Theresa Gunderman, attended Jun 2026: I bought this class for my daughter-in-law for her birthday and she went with my son and they learned a lot and really enjoyed the class. So much so that I’m looking now for another class to gift them.
  • 5/5 from Samantha Taranto, attended Jun 2026: Rachel was awesome and the 3 hours flew by. We really enjoyed the class and learnt the basics of water colour art, everything to kick start a lovely and enjoyable new pastime. Thank you Zetta Florence.
  • 5/5 from Cindy Hsiao, attended May 2026: The class was amazing, my friends and I had a lovely time learning about water colour. Our teacher went through the basics of water colour painting and we had plenty of time to sketch and practice techniques.
  • 3/5 from Nat Stokan, attended May 2026: Loved the quality of brushes, paper and gift voucher provided, tea and biscuits were a delight on a cold day. Little disappointed flowers were partially dying out, lamps on table for ambiance were all flat and there was no direction in the class as to help with technique once the demo was provided Was a nice day overall, very quiet. Perhaps was expecting a little more as the class was higher in price range to other watercolour workshops. Would still recommend for a fun activity and great location. Teacher was sweet.
  • 4/5 from Andrea Paton, attended Apr 2026: The class was really good and made me stop and look at a flower properly. And gave me some new skills too. The teacher was very skilled too.
  • 5/5 from Betsy Bradshaw, attended Mar 2026: Clear calm encouragement Learned a lot I would recommend the experience to anyone who wants to to maje a start
  • 5/5 from Olivia Hines, attended Nov 2025: Very relaxing class at Zetta. The teacher was lovely and gave lots of good tips.
  • 5/5 from Krista Callinan, attended Nov 2025: What a beautiful way to spend a Sunday morning. It was so relaxing and so much fun. I would like to have spent a little more time actually painting with the watercolour paints, but learning the full process of sketching, outlining and painting techniques was still good too.
  • 5/5 from Su Kim, attended Oct 2025: Loved this class! Rachel’s super chill and gave such helpful tips — I drew way better than I expected. Used my $20 voucher to grab a pretty notebook too. Perfect way to relax and be creative!
  • 5/5 from Rosetta Basile, attended Oct 2025: Hi. The class was relaxed and the atmosphere was enjoyable. I found it to be welcoming and supportive of all skill levels. Lots of positive reinforcement and encouragement (which I needed). The teacher gave clear explanations and demonstrations. She showed patience, especially for beginners. Overall, I enjoyed learning and working with watercolours. Rose
  • 5/5 from Dianne Frost, attended Oct 2025: A lovely morning, relaxing and beautiful venue. The group received simple and easy to follow instructions and our teacher followed up with individual help and lots of positive feedback. I would definitely recommend to others.
  • 5/5 from Margaret Iannessa, attended Oct 2025: Teacher was very talented, right level of instruction and very supportive. Amazing space and materials provided. Great value.
  • 3/5 from Lisa Kovacevic, attended Oct 2025: A lovely environment for a class and nice instructor. The class itself however was lacking in detail for me: instructions were vague and general and left me a little confused. I’ve done a 3 hour botanical watercolour class before and the results were far superior to this one; that one covered how to sketch, light and shade, and clearer instruction on technique and when and where to apply it. It also covered how to accurately select and mix colours (colour mixing in this class was confusing due to the dry paint pans that were devoid of names). The use of dry paint pans are harder to work with than watercolour tubes which allow for easy identification and mixing of custom colours on the palette. Overall very disappointed in this class. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to learn basic watercolour skills.
