Launch your own garment design career with our absolute beginner workshops.
Enter the world of pattern making & design from an experienced international designer who has created garments for leading brands such as Ted Baker, ASOS, Topshop, and involved in developing outfits for influencers such as Kloe Kardashian.
Learn how to create your own pattern making blocks following the series of FSO STEP 2: Basic Block Development. Included in our lesson is our exclusively developed how-to manual | workbook and 30 + years domestic and international experience.
FSO STEP 2: Basic Block Development.
During this 2-day intensive Lesson: You will work through the exclusive "Basic Block Development how-to manual | workbook", based on your own unique body shape measurements taken in the Fit model analysis workshop /lesson. An introduction on how to draft your own card blocks based on your unique body measurements. For some it is a slow-paced enjoyable activity and for others it is a light bulb moment.
Rough Guide:
1: Fit Model Analysis Week 1
2. Drafting block onto card: Week 1
3: Cutting out toile in Calico / sew toile / fit: Week 2
4. Fit if not completed in week 2 / Adjust Pattern: Week 3

T&Cs:
Fit Model Analysis workshop / lesson is a pre-requisite for the Basic Block Development workshops / lessons. You are required to complete this only once. If your garment size does fluctuate you may be required to complete it again. The Basic Block development workshops / lessons are fast paced and does not allocate time for taking measurements, we jump straight into the lesson. Once this Step 1 lesson is complete and you wish to attend some or all of the Basic block's workshops you do not need to come to the first session of the day and can start at the later time of 1:30pm. The studio space does not have a waiting area, there are several yummy local cafes nearby, retail spaces or parks you may like to visit prior to attending the basic block.
We have client parking outside the studio and on the street. Please ensure you are not parking in a reserved parking spot. Tea / coffee / biscuits will be provided for day intensives (If you require a special milk please bring). Please provide your own lunch. Bottled water only in the workroom.

Fitting Model Workbook completed, Basic Bodice Block in Cardboard and paper patterns, 2meters of calico first of sample for fitting and may need further adjustments. An insight into how we engineer around our beautiful curves, tips and tricks used in the industry to take a "homemade" item into the professional realm.

Hey everyone
Thanks for stopping by. I'm a tea drinking, dog & cat obsessed fashion teacher by day… by night a mummy to a cartwheeling 10 year dance, sport & YouTube loving tween. Plus a loving daughter to a beautiful mum recently diagnosed with early stages dementia.
Devastated is an understatement.
My mum taught me everything I knew about sewing for most of my life. Until I started working with exclusive brands. Because her skills were so highly sort after I wanted to learn the art of pattern making & drafting garments from measurements.
Fast forward 30 years and now I’m teaching these skills to students in VET. Teaching as a profession since 2013.
My career in this industry started officially in grade 11 (1991) in West End at a Fashion Agency, side note is a grew up looking at her sew from home in bouncer in the mid 70s in Daisy Hill. Studied Couture at Tafe then landed a fantastic posting at Triumph International as a textile / fabric librarian. After this I magically gained an enviable position as head textile designer at a knitting mill in Browns plains. Travelling the world researching ideas & trends. Drawing everyday.
This led me to a position of garment designer for manufacturer in Brisbane.
From this, I courageously decided to move overseas working for brands such as Ted Baker, ASOS, Top Shop, Selfridges and more in London. I learnt so much here.
After 4 years I moved back to Australia and with the desire to teach. Which I’ve been doing with in my business Fashion Student.
My love is creativity and daydreaming. However this industry is a business which I completely understand. It’s changing and I’m hoping the wider community will allow for positive more sustainable options.
The workshops I have available are unique to me as I’ve been writing qualifications for the past 8 years.
