Glassblowing & Mosaic Experience Gifts
We spend the first 1/2 hr with an introductory chat about mosaics, tools, and substrates... then jump straight into practising shaping your tiles and creating your mosaic.
I work closely with all of my students, whether you’re a beginner or a more accomplished mosaicist, to create whatever project you wish to mosaic.
For a beginner, generally, we start on a manageable-sized tile board around 24 x 30 cm for a 1-day workshop. We focus on practising the keystone technique as part of building our mosaics. You choose an image that you’d like to mosaic and email it to me. I will draw a template that you will trace onto your tile board at the beginning of your workshop.

If you would prefer to create a different picture, go to Pinterest and find one, then email it to me so I can simplify it and draw it onto the tile board so it’s ready for your workshop.
My workshops include all materials, your choice of imagery, refreshments, a delicious lunch, and lots of laughs! You are very welcome to bring any of your own special trinkets, bits and bobs, cosmetic jewellery, etc., that you’d like to include in your artwork.
I offer 1, 2 & 3, and multi-day mosaic workshops to cater to all projects. Some of the popular mosaic artworks for multi-day beginner and experienced mosaicist workshops are:
  • birdbaths

  • chess boards
  • larger planter pots
  • food or drink trays
  • Lazy Susans
  • coffee tables
For the multi-day workshops, you choose and supply your own substrates.
As we get close to the workshop date, I need to know if anyone has special dietary requirements, so I can cater for that.
Prices are:
  • 1-day workshop - $195 - beginner - everything supplied but feel free to bring any special trinkets to include.
  • 2-day workshop - $345 - students supply their own substrate to mosaic but all tools and mosaic tiles are included.
  • 3-day workshop - $475 - students supply their own substrate to mosaic but all tools and mosaic tiles are included.
  • Garden Balls - 30 cm diameter - $550.00. These are custom-shaped polystyrene garden balls that you will learn how to prime, mosaic your chosen design onto, and then grout it, ready to place in your garden, deck, or inside as a feature artwork for all to admire.
After your workshop, you need to let your mosaic dry before cleaning the surface of the tiles, ready for grouting. You can do that at home or return to me, and we can grout together.

My career as a graphic designer and fine artist spans 35 years. In 1989, travelling through Italy, Spain and Morocco, my eyes were opened to the incredible craft of mosaic art. On my return to Brisbane, Rebecca Wilkie Designs Art Studio and ceramic tile factory was opened in Bulimba. Two years later, we moved to larger premises in Newstead, where the business enjoyed considerable growth during the next 12 years. Over time and many commissioned artworks, I was continually challenged to hone my skills and experiment with a wide variety of techniques and materials in order to fulfil the demands of producing fresh and unique mosaic artworks for my customers. Some of the commissioned projects include residential mosaics for walls, entry floor murals, tables, chairs, swimming pools, ponds, and stairwells. Larger commercial works, sculptural and public art commissions include Iguana Joes Bar in Gosford, Mater Children’s Hospital, 5 x McDonalds stores, Secrets on the Lake- Montville, Palazzo Versace Nypheum Walls, Charters Towers Community Centre, Seaworld Nara Resort Bar.
Creating mosaic art can be a very satisfying journey. I offer mosaic classes for beginners and more accomplished crafters. Art classes for adults is becoming more and more recognised for it’s therapeutic qualities. You can really lose yourself in this craft and enjoy the moment while focusing on cutting and shaping tiles to create your artwork. My Mosaic Workshop can be a great learning experience for most, but all who pursue artistic endeavours will find a positive outcome in the process.
