  • 5/5 from Gill Brown, attended Mar 2026: Had a lovely afternoon making the noodle bowl set with my daughter and sister. Melissa was a great teacher and we all ended up with beautiful bowls (excited to see them when we pick them up after firing).
  • 5/5 from Suzanne Kearey, attended Mar 2026: For my 70th year, I decided it was time to delve deep and gig out my creative side or see if any existed! Enjoy learning new things and keeping my brain active. The practical side of me was attracted to the Noodle Bowl Set Class. Useful as well as creative! Excellent teacher, able to assess my abilities and assist accordingly. But as with a good teacher, I was pushed to do things myself, even when I would rather the teacher did it. It was interesting to make mistakes and learn how to resolve them. Venue was well located and totally adequate to our requirements. Strangely what I found exciting and gave greater depth to clay work was finding out how it has a memory and actually isn’t that unforgiving. Love the tactile feel of the clay. Looking forward to my next class.

I’m Melissa, a potter and English teacher based in Brighton on the northern bayside of Brisbane. I've been more seriously doing pottery for about six years after taking a class in wheel throwing. Working with clay is addictive, good for personal well-being, and achievable — and that’s why I keep coming back to it.
I now work from my home studio, where I enjoy both hand-building and wheel throwing objects that I mostly gift to family and friends. I'm a member of my local community studio, which allows me to learn from other potters. I now fire at home with my own kiln and mix many of my own glazes.
Alongside making, I've taught high school English and Arts for about ten years. My workshops are calm, encouraging, and thoughtfully structured — and I cater mostly for beginners.
I'm fairly confident that after a class or two, you may catch the very contagious pottery bug, and I hope you do.
