All materials and tools are provided, however if you wish to bring your own scissors/craft knife or photos and things to collage, you are most welcome to!
Q: Is this event child friendly?
Yes, please message me before the class and I will check through the magazines to ensure they contain child friendly content. I have a Working with Children Check and have hosted collage workshops for kids before - It’s great fun for parents and kids, and the nature photos in the magazines are amazing to look at for all ages.
Q: Can you come to my event/house/party?
Yes I would love to host a pop-up collage workshop for you, and can travel anywhere in the Newcastle, Hunter and Lake Macquarie region.

Select Pictures That Catch Your Eye
This is an exercise in developing your intuition - flick through the magazines (there are many to look through!) and when something holds your attention, sparks a new feeling or stands out… cut it out! You want to have at least 3 pictures or words cut out - some people have 20 or more! But 3 is the minimum to make a collage.
We share the magazines and help each other find images if you’re looking for something in particular.
Arranging Images
Next, you'll arrange your cut pictures/words on a sheet of cardstock. There are infinite ways to tell a story or create a situation with them. When you’ve found something that feels right, glue it down. You don’t have to use all the images you cut out; you can keep them for future collages if you want.
Gallery
At the end of the workshop, we get to see what everyone made! It’s inspiring to see how everyone’s collage is so unique and reflects their personality. We say goodbye and you get to go home with your artworks and some more materials if you want to continue collage at home.

I have always believed in the power of art to learn more about our inner worlds, and collage is the most accessible medium for doing this! It doesn’t matter if you have never tried your hand at art, anyone can make a collage in a short period of time. Every workshop I host results in art that is as unique as the people who came, and it’s a delight to see kids and adults express themselves. Even better is the magic of the story that they see in the collage when it’s finished - often they had no idea what they were making until the end. In a few hours, you can create several collages to take home and maybe even hang in your house. I have taught collage at the Dobell Festival with Lake Macquarie Council in 2025 and 2026, and love to partner with local businesses and artists to create unique pop-up workshops.
