Come along and choose your leather style. Leather jewellery is very lightweight and not something you often see in shops anyway. If you love big earrings, leather is your friend because it is light compared to many other materials. It also just has a natural feel about it, and colours or textures that can pop. It makes for a unique gift too.
In this workshop, each participant chooses different leather pieces (in different colours), and is allocated a cutting die (shape). They can then make their items with that shape or they can swap the shape and their remnant leather pieces with someone else in class to add variety to what they make. In fact, swapping is half the fun, as it gets us mingling. (If you'd rather not swap, more leather can be bought during the workshop for $15 per piece.)
Our aim is to make more than one item in the time provided. How many items can you make? The style variations are endless, as is the fun in seeing each other's ideas come to life, and thinking up ways to best use our diminishing pieces of leather.
Cutting tools are provided, as is leather glue, earring fixings (stainless steel hooks or titanium hoops) and snap tools (for chokers or wristbands). If you wish to upgrade from stainless steel hooks to sterling silver, this can be done on the day (for $15).
Lastly, I like to theme workshops so groups have more in common - such as teens, mums at wine-time, or ASD mother-daughter dates. If you are interested in joining a wait list for a particular theme, or want a private workshop for a birthday or hens event, please contact me.
Because there are some sharp tools in the class, I cannot accept children under the age of 13. There are discounts for multiple seat reservations. The max number of participants is 12 and the minimum is 6.

The aim of my leather jewellery workshops is not simply to make things - though that is important! Anyone can craft at home with a DIY YouTube channel and enough resources. Workshops are more than that. They're about connection and creative energy through a shared interest. It’s ad hoc conversation in a space where folk are doing what they all enjoy.
I structure my workshops so that they are intimate (not too big) and participants have reasons to interact by sharing resources. In a past life, I used to teach adults daily, and part of me misses that live classroom interaction, where everyone goes home buoyed by our interactions and what we learned from each other that day. Now I can take those skills to the group maker-space. I aim to theme each workshop to attract similar demographic groups – such as ladies at wine-time, teens, or ASD mother-daughter dates. Workshops can be great places to meet other people with similar interests and I believe our society needs more of that. It also helps each class dynamic.

As for what we will make... leather jewellery, baby! If you're into wearable art, forget mass-produced factory items. In this day of AI, it's time to embrace imperfect, idiosyncratic, individually crafted items made the slow way – with love and mindfulness! Why buy ready-made items when you can make them yourself, exactly to your taste, while sharing the experience with others? I hope to see you at one of my workshops soon.
