The Enchanted Planter
Friday 15th August 6-8:30pm
Ever wanted to create a beautiful, nature-inspired ceramic planter that reflects your personal style? In this vibrant and creative 2 1/2-hour workshop, you'll do just that.
Join Diane in the studio for a hands-on session where you’ll be given a pre-thrown wheel-made pot (approximately 12 cm high) to transform into your own unique planter. Using a combination of surface decoration techniques—including sculpting, painting, and texture work—you'll learn how to bring your ceramic piece to life.
This workshop is designed to encourage personal expression. Whether you’re inspired by florals, green men, witches, animals, abstract design, or something totally your own, you'll be guided to create a piece that's meaningful to you.
What You’ll Learn & Take Home:
  • Surface decoration techniques including sgraffito, carving, and hand-built additions
  • How to use underglazes to paint and personalise your design
  • Creative freedom to explore and decorate in your style
  • A beautiful, glazed ceramic planter ready to brighten up your home or garden
Why It Matters:
Hand-decorating your planter allows you to connect with the creative process and produce something truly one-of-a-kind. Whether you're making it as a gift or a personal keepsake, your planter will be a reflection of your imagination and care.
No prior pottery experience is needed—just bring your creativity and a willingness to play with clay and colour.
We will carefully dry, glaze, and kiln-fire your planter. It will be ready for collection from the studio in 2–3 weeks. If any breakages occur during firing, we will do our best to repair them. If repair isn't possible, you’ll have the chance to remake the piece or receive a full refund.
About Diane:
Hi guys …I thought I’d introduce myself. I’m Dianeyou can join me in classes at Carys Martin Ceramics
I’m a sculptor drawn to the ancient spiritual energy of the British Isles. My work is deeply rooted in the mysticism of Celtic and Druidic tradition. For me, sculpture is more than a visual artform—it’s a way of creating vessels that hold memory, myth, and elemental force.
Working mainly in clay and natural materials, I explore the timeless connection between land, spirit, and form. My pieces are shaped by a quiet reverence for nature and the unseen, echoing sacred groves, standing stones, and the old rituals of pre-Christian Britain. Through texture, symbolism, and organic shape, I see my work as a kind of offering—a modern invocation of ancient truths.

Hi, I’m Carys Martin, and I’ve been living and breathing art for as long as I can remember.
I taught my very first workshop at just 15 years old, and that early experience lit a spark that’s never gone out. After earning my degree in Art in 1997 and a PGCE in 1998, I’ve spent the years creating, exhibiting, and sharing my love for art through teaching.
With over 35 years of teaching experience across the UK, US, and Australia, I’ve helped thousands of people tap into their creativity. Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned maker, I aim to create a warm, welcoming space where you can explore, experiment, and grow.
Ceramics is my passion—there’s something magical about transforming clay into something both beautiful and functional. I exhibit and sell my own ceramic art and run all my workshops from my own studio—a vibrant, inspiring space where creativity flows freely. It’s not just my teaching home; it’s also a shared creative hub where other talented artists run their own workshops, making it a rich and ever-evolving space for learning and connection.
Teaching, for me, is about more than passing on skills—it’s about igniting confidence, joy, and self-expression. Creativity feeds the soul, and I truly believe everyone has the ability to make something meaningful.
If you're ready to try something new, get your hands dirty, and create something uniquely yours, I’d love to welcome you into the studio. Come join us—and let’s make something beautiful together.
