What you'll do

Join Ann Russell, for an exciting visual art experience with her feathers and fur painting course!

In this course, you'll learn the art of painting animals by focusing on shape, tone, and texture. By mastering these skills, you'll be able to confidently tackle any animal or bird in the future.

Throughout the six week course, we'll be working with a range of materials including charcoal, pen and wash, soft pastel, and acrylic paint.

Perfect for beginners, we'll take a step-by-step approach, breaking down the process of creating animal portraits into manageable chunks. We start with the fundamentals, focusing on shapes and proportions, then move on to the essence of fur and feathers with various techniques. You'll have the opportunity to experiment with different art materials, allowing you to find the medium that resonates with you the most.

We want this course to be an empowering experience for you, where you can express yourself and see your artistic abilities flourish. By the end of the six sessions, you'll not only have created two beautiful animal artworks, but you'll also have gained a new set of skills that you can continue to build upon in the future.

The series will generally follow the following format:

Week one: Basics using pencil and charcoal, exercises, trial animal drawing.
Week two: Watercolour – painting of duck
Week three: Pastel – drawing of furred animal
Week four: Acrylic painting – techniques and sample painting: Lorikeet
Week five: Own choice project
Week six: Own choice project

I am Ann, and my business name is ann.russell.art. I am based in the north west suburbs of brisbane and have many years experience as a practicing artist and as an arts educator. Over the years, I have helped many people realise their creative potential and develop their own art work as a hobby, profession and for relaxation.

I love to paint in watercolour and mixed media and also create surreal assemblage sculptures using glass, resin, polymer clay and found objects.

I am passionate about helping everyone find their visual language and believe that everyone can paint, draw and develop their own style. I have studied art and education to post graduate level and love to pass on what I have learned to others.

As a practicing artist, I have exhibited locally, interstate and overseas and have been selected as a finalist for a number of prestigious exhibitions.
