Looking for a fun, creative after-school activity that kids and their grown-ups can enjoy together?
Our After-School Potters Wheel Short Course is a playful, hands-on introduction to wheel throwing, designed especially for children — with parents, siblings, and friends warmly invited to join in.
Over four weeks, participants will learn the basics of making pots on the wheel in a supportive, relaxed environment. We’ll focus on the core skills of working with clay, including preparing it, centring on the wheel, and shaping simple forms. Expect lots of spinning, experimenting, and a few muddy hands along the way!
Students will experience shaping forms such as bowls, plates, mugs, and small vessels, while building confidence on the wheel. Participants will also have the chance to paint or glaze their creations. Once fired, these pieces are ready to take home — a lasting reminder of their creativity and effort.
In the first class, students jump straight into throwing on the wheel. By the second week, trimming is introduced — a favourite step for many, as it transforms their pieces and gives them a more finished feel.
All materials are included: clay, glazes, tools, and firing. Our teachers are experienced, encouraging, and love helping young makers (and their families) feel comfortable and confident with clay.
Please note: This is a hands-on, muddy experience — bring a towel and wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!
