Cinder Ceramics is a small, Newcastle-based ceramics practice founded by Shelby, whose love for clay began back in Year 7 during high school art class. What started as a quiet interest stayed with her for years, always in the background, until she finally booked an eight-week pottery course during her first year at uni studying Occupational Therapy, as a creative outlet.

That short course ended up changing everything. Shelby quickly fell in love with ceramics, the process, the patience it requires, and the way clay allows creativity and function to meet. Since then, her passion for ceramics has continued to grow, becoming an essential part of both her creative and personal life.

Shelby particularly loves bringing people’s ideas to life through custom commissions, working closely with clients to create meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Cinder Ceramics now also offers mobile ceramics and sip workshops, focusing on relaxed, beginner-friendly hand-building sessions that can be enjoyed in your own space. These workshops are designed to be social, creative, and welcoming, no experience required, just a willingness to get your hands dirty.
