Closed Terrarium Making Workshop

Create your own mini world in a jar!

1.5 hours

Class size 1 to 12 (public classes), 2 to 30
  $120 (Afterpay available)

Looking for a fun, hands-on experience where you can slow down, get creative and enjoy a little greenery?
Join us for a relaxed, beginner-friendly terrarium workshop where you'll design and build your very own tiny ecosystem to take home and enjoy.
No green thumb or creative experience needed! I'll guide you through every step, with everything provided so you can relax, have some fun and enjoy the process.
You'll start by layering pebbles, charcoal and soil before arranging moss, feature rocks and easy-care plants to bring your tiny world to life. Then comes the fun of making it your own, with coloured sand, ornaments and springtails (your terrarium's tiny clean-up crew!).
There's no right or wrong way to create. Everyone starts with the same materials, but no two terrariums ever turn out quite the same.
Along the way, you'll learn how your little ecosystem works and how to care for it once you take it home. You'll also receive a take-home care guide so you can continue growing your terrarium with confidence.
Whether you come with a friend, make it a date or join us on your own, you'll find a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere with plenty of guidance and encouragement along the way.
It's a couple of hours to put your phone down, get your hands dirty, enjoy some good company and create something that's uniquely yours.
Come along and leave with your own tiny world — and that lovely feeling of being able to say, "I made that!"

FAQ

How hard is it to care for a closed terrarium?
Closed terrariums are surprisingly easy to care for! They create their own little ecosystem, so once they’re set up, you’ll only need to add a light mist of water every now and then. The rest is just sitting back and watching nature do its thing.
Do you charge travel or parking fees for private workshops?
Depending on the destination, a travel fee may be charged. If the venue only has paid parking, a parking fee may also apply. Message to confirm these costs.

Hi, I’m Trish — wife, mum, creative soul and the plant-loving people person behind Leaf Jars.
I’ve always loved helping people and sharing what I know, but my love of plants really grew during a tough season of life. Spending time with plants gave me a sense of calm, helped me manage my anxiety and slowly filled my home with greenery.
And I certainly didn’t start out with a green thumb! I used to joke that I was a bit of a “plant killer”, but with patience, practice and a whole lot of learning along the way, that began to change. That journey is a big part of why I love running terrarium workshops today.
There’s something really lovely about bringing people together around a table, giving them the space to slow down, get creative and have a little fun.
One of my favourite moments is watching someone who walked in saying “I’m not creative” or “I can’t keep plants alive” leave with a terrarium they’re proud of and the confidence to care for it.
But over the years, I’ve learnt that people come away with so much more than a terrarium. It’s the conversations, the laughter, the little surprises and the time spent doing something just for the joy of it.
That’s what I hope you’ll experience when you join me around the workshop table — a warm welcome, plenty of encouragement and the freedom to create your own tiny world. No green thumb required!
Because for me, Leaf Jars has always been about growing more than plants.
And when I’m not running workshops or tending to my plants, you’ll usually find me spending time with my boys (my husband and son), catching up with family or friends over coffee… or following every Formula 1 race. I’m a true F1 tragic! ️
