Have you ever felt the call to transform raw materials into something precious and deeply personal? To take an idea and, through your own hands, bring it into tangible form? This is the magic of metalsmithing – an ancient craft, a potent form of self-expression, and the heart of the two-day immersion experience.
In this inspiring weekend workshop, you'll co-create with metal, guided by experienced hands in a supportive environment. Whether you're a complete beginner or have dabbled in creative pursuits, you're welcome here. We'll provide a space for you to explore your innate artistry and discover the alchemist within.
Run over Saturday and Sunday - 10am-4.30pm in Melbourne's beautiful North-east at the edge of the Yarra Valley Region. With plenty of accommodation options around should you wish to make a weekend stay of it!
What You'll Create:
Over two transformative days, you'll learn fundamental metalsmithing techniques, each one a key to unlocking new creative possibilities. You'll gain the skills to:
  • Shape and form: Saw, pierce, file, and texture metal, developing a relationship with its strength and pliability.
  • Join and bond: Solder rings, earring components, and pendant bails, fusing separate elements into a unified whole.
  • Transform and refine: Anneal, oxidize, and use micromotor tools to manipulate metal and achieve a professional finish.
  • Measure and design: Precisely measure materials and learn to craft earring hooks and posts, and use a rolling mill to manipulate the metal.
You'll leave with at least four finished silver pieces and perhaps, a few surprising discoveries about your own potential.
More Than Just Making:
This immersion is designed to be enriching on multiple levels. You'll also:
  • Connect with the craft's heritage: Gain an understanding of hallmarking and studio safety, respecting the traditions and best practices of metalsmithing.
  • Learn the language of tools: Become familiar with essential equipment, empowering you to set up your own creative space if you feel called to continue your practise.
  • Nourish your body and spirit: Enjoy delicious gourmet lunches provided each day, with options to suit your dietary needs.
  • Receive guidance for growth: For those drawn to sharing their creations, we offer insights into packaging, pricing, and selling your jewellery.
Your Investment in Transformation:
The fee for this two-day immersion is $1300 AUD, which includes all materials (including a generous 60g of sterling silver), tools, lunches, and comprehensive instruction.
A Note on What's Not Included:
Please note that this particular immersion focuses on foundational metalsmithing techniques. Lost wax casting, sand or cuttlefish casting, and stone setting are not covered in this workshop but are offered in separate specialised sessions.
