In this art glass workshop, you will discover a new medium and have fun with friends while creating your very own large glass platter and set of coasters!
Your instructor will go over the different types of glass and give you a brief rundown on art glass, including System 96 which you will be using to create your pieces. You will be shown the different forms of glass as well as examples of opaque and translucent coloured glass so you can develop your piece. You will be guided in the basics of glass working, including breaking, shaping and designing with glass.
Everyone will be provided with appropriate sized bases of glass for their projects to ensure a solid finished piece after firing. Then working with glass pieces, frits, powders, stringers, and beads you will create and glue your designs ready for firing.
A range of ceramic moulds for shaping platters will also be discussed and you can choose to shape your artwork into a functional dish or leave it flat as a piece of art. Each piece will then be put through our kiln 1-3 times depending on the desired finish and shape of your piece.
As the kilns take time to heat and cool, the glass projects will need to be collected after the class, dependent on the amount of work in the firing queue platters can take up to 2 weeks to be completed.
Anyone who wishes to have their pieces returned via post can add return postage on the booking page and we will ask for the shipping address on the day.

Leadlight By Ettore
Leadlight By Ettore has been teaching Glass Arts in the Macedon Ranges for over 40 years. The studio is a multi-generational business with both Ettore and his daughter Rhain running 10 week term classes, weekend workshops, private groups and parties as well as school holiday programs. The studio also produces fused glass, copper-foiled and mosaic pieces as well as repairs and commissions of leadlight panels. Over the sessions, one or both may be in attendance as your teacher.
The Old Auction House is an independently run multi-use arts precinct located in the regional Victorian town of Kyneton, just an hour north of Melbourne. Housed in a historic weatherboard building, which served as the much loved Ferris auction rooms for over 80 years, the precinct opened in April 2017 and is home to a variety of artistic spaces.
The Old Auction House is currently home to a retail shop specialising in quality Australian handmade items, four working artist studios including local glass artists Leadlight By Ettore, a teaching space for visiting artists, and two gallery spaces with rotating exhibitions.
The Old Auction House is open 7 days and the entire space has been renovated to be accessible for those with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility issues.
The Old Auction House has a focus on community engagement in the arts. Each studio runs a variety of classes with different artists and materials throughout the year.
Please have a look through our full list of classes to see the range of crafts and skills you can learn with our tutors or get in touch to book a private group session or party.
