Week 1: Throwing
Learn to prepare clay for wheel throwing, centre the clay on the wheel, open and pull walls to make basic vessels
Week 2: Throwing Continues
Practice what you learned in week 1 and understand how to make cylinders and bowls
Week 3: Trimming
Using the pieces you made in the first 2 weeks you'll learn to trim and level off the base of your pots, trim off some of the weight and incorporate various foot ring designs, add handles or other decorations.
Week 4: Glazing
Your pieces will be bisque fired ready to glaze, and in week 4 you'll learn how to apply glaze and decorate your pieces with a selection of glazes from our glaze library, before they are fired for the final time and ready for you to pick up a few weeks later.

I came to ceramics exactly the way you're reading this - I found a class, booked it on a whim, and made something terrible. Then immediately wanted to do it again. That was over seven years ago. I'm self-taught, which means I learned everything through trial, error, and a lot of recycled clay. It also means I remember exactly what it feels like to not know what you're doing, which I think makes me a better teacher.Amfora grew out of that experience. I wanted to create a studio that felt serious about the craft without taking itself too seriously. A place where beginners could make a mess without embarrassment, and more experienced potters could come and just get on with it.Before turning to ceramics full time, I spent years facilitating team workshops and planning sessions in a professional context, working with groups of all sizes - from small teams of four to rooms of thirty. That experience taught me a lot about how people learn together and what makes a shared activity actually land. I bring that into every session I run at Amfora.There's something that happens when a group of people sit down at a wheel or a workbench together. Hierarchy disappears. Conversations open up. Someone you'd never expect turns out to have real hands for this. I love that moment, every time.
