Junko”s energy was calming, positive and encouraging. I especially enjoyed connecting with others abd his they cans to create their chosen creation. Highly recommend.

She was generous in sharing her knowledge and experience of stone hanko carving and gave each student plenty of advice and encouragement which ensured that we were all very happy with what we accomplished. I now have a new skill and the confidence to try more seal (hanko) carving. Junko is clearly a very accomplished artist and a great teacher. I wholeheartedly recommend her classes.

The instructor, Yanko, was very welcoming and took us through all the steps to design and create a seal, as well as how to stamp it to produce a clear image, which is trickier than you might imagine. The location in Fitzroy was easy to get to using public transport so no need to worry about parking. Yunko also sold additional supplies for those who wanted to make another seal at home.
• 4/5 from Joanne Ting, attended Feb 2025: With my Chinese heritage I’ve always wanted a chop/stamp in the hanko style to sign off my watercolour art work so this unique class was perfect. Junko is very vibrant and enthusiastic and most of the class were already experienced in linocut and the equipment so everyone was raring to go. I’m not sure if a demo was skipped because of that but it would have helped me more I think if Junko did one herself first explaining how to use the carving tool. All up I’m happy with my carvings and would go back for a longer session!

(The green tea and choc chip biscuits were a nice touch!) what I most enjoyed was that the other participants were happy to share their outcomes giving me inspiration to do more at home. The teacher gave material that helped us to emerge into the history of stamp carving and feel part of the crowd of amazing artists who started to use them centuries ago. Adding your personal stamp to any artwork will make it very special and cool.

She is so creative and calm. The venue was in a quiet place where we had plenty of room and were surrounded by beautiful Japanese papers and pretty objects made with Kami products. It was special to use high quality traditional Japanese materials and tools. I learned to design my own stone seal which I will use for my hand stitched books. It was interesting to hear about some history, customers and heritage in Japanese culture. It was a thoughtful workshop and Junko has lovely taste and a wonderful style. I am looking forward to selecting some plain rice papers and decorative papers soon. Thank you for an inspiring afternoon.

Junko even prepared Japanese tea for us. All I had to do was to bring an open mind and readiness to explore a new art medium. I loved it.

Two hours went by so quickly, from designing to carving, and it was lovely to meet and interact with the other participants.
