Indian Cooking Class

Learn how to cook spectacular treasured family recipes from the various regions of India

4 hours Location Bentleigh East Class size 1 to 10 guests   $220 (Afterpay available)

As Australia's Spice Queen, I've spent years breaking the stereotype of what people think Indian cuisine is from the UK to Australia.
For too long, many Australians have believed that Indian food begins and ends with butter chicken, naan and the familiar dishes found in restaurants.
While Indian restaurant food has become a cuisine in its own right, it represents only a limited westernised version, of one of the world's richest and most diverse culinary traditions.
At Heavenly Morsel, my mission has always been to introduce people to the real India - the vibrant regional cuisines, family recipes and extraordinary flavours that rarely exist outside Indian homes.
It's a journey that has completely transformed the way thousands of students experience Indian food. Not oily, not heavy - but more delicate, nourishing and intriguing, all whilst being sinfully delicious!
Once people discover the freshness, elegance and complexity of authentic regional Indian cuisine, they often find themselves looking at restaurant Indian food through an entirely new lens.
With over 500 authentic recipes across 80 immersive masterclasses, you'll explore the remarkable diversity of India's regions, each with its own unique spices, ingredients, cooking techniques and culinary traditions.
No two regions taste alike.
From the fragrant coconut curries of the South to the royal dishes of the North, fiery (optional) coastal seafood, ancient vegetarian temple cuisine and forgotten village recipes, every class takes you deeper into the true soul of Indian cooking.
At Heavenly Morsel, every dish begins with uncompromising quality.
We cook with premium produce, freshly roasted and ground whole spices, authentic techniques and traditional methods - never relying on commercial premixes, packaged spice blends or shortcuts.
You'll learn not only how to cook each dish, but why every spice, ingredient and technique matters, giving you the confidence to recreate extraordinary meals long after the class has finished.
Whether you're a complete beginner or an experienced cook, these special masterclasses are designed to immerse you in one of the world's most fascinating cuisines.
This isn't simply a cooking class.
It's a culinary journey through the real India, with your Spice Queen.
This is the world of Indian cooking that most people never knew existed.

Please note: Public dates for this class require at least 8 guests to run. In the unlikely event that we don't reach this number, we may cancel the session; if that happens, we'll inform you and let you choose between a refund or reschedule, so please watch your email/SMS one day prior to the class.

  • 5/5 from Courtney Kramer, attended Jun 2025: We had an amazing day. Tanya is excellent at what she does and the food was really delicious. Will definitely come back for another lesson. Thanks so much for everything Tanya!
  • 5/5 from Keith Couzinwood, attended May 2025: A Deeply Flavourful Journey into Southern Indian Cuisine Tanya from Heavenly Morsels delivers more than just a cooking class—she offers an intimate, immersive journey into the heart of Southern Indian home cooking, steeped in memory, heritage, and an intuitive mastery of spice. In a small group setting, we prepared five dishes drawn from Tanya’s own family recipes. Each was a study in the nuanced layering of spices, where aromatics, proteins, and textures worked in harmony to create truly soulful food. What sets this experience apart is Tanya’s ability to demystify the foundations of Indian cooking. Her passion is palpable, her instruction clear, and her palate impeccable. By the end of the session, I felt not only more confident with Indian ingredients, but deeply inspired by the tradition behind them. Heavenly Morsels is a must for food lovers seeking more than just a recipe—this is a class that awakens the senses, honours cultural roots, and leaves you hungry for more. Your taste buds (and your future dinner guests) will be grateful.
  • 5/5 from Nathalie Walker, attended Feb 2025: Tanya was great a great host and a enthusiastic teacher, passionate with food. I learnt lots of tips to make delicious, but light Indian meals. So different than those served in restaurants/take away that are very oily and heavy. Onions generally make me bloating, but the way it was cooked made a lot of difference and I was fine. Her house was easy to find and very welcoming. Highly recommend Tanya's class.
  • 5/5 from Lauren Perry, attended Aug 2024: Loved every minute of this course. I was given the voucher as a gift and it was hard to find a date when I was in Melbourne and there was a space but Tanya was extremely helpful and flexible. On the day, she was highly motivational, a skilled teacher and everything was super efficient and informative. The group bonded immediately and it was a lot of fun. My big takeaway was how important the right brands of spices and other ingredients are. No more Hoyts bay leaves for me! I’m now keen to explore an Indian grocery store. The course was most definitely good value for money. Much time thought and preparation went into it. Not a moment was wasted and the food at the end was delicious. 5 stars from me and a big thank you to Tanya for making it such a memorable day.
  • 5/5 from Mary Tsiros, attended Jul 2024: I attended the class as a way to begin learning how to cook Indian cuisine. Tanya is a very generous teacher sharing her knowledge and providing value for money!
  • 5/5 from Jennifer Goss, attended May 2024: Tanya was an excellent teacher and host and I have learnt a lot about quality of food and flavour using simple methods and delicious spices. The venue worked well and the food we took home was plentiful and delicious. Everyone participated which was great. I learnt a lot about the nutritional value of food as well which was informative and excellent. I will be doing another class as I really enjoyed the day. Great value for money.
  • 5/5 from Diana Miller, attended Nov 2023: Thoroughly enjoyed this Indian food cooking class. Authentic Indian cuisine taught by our host, Tanya, who was so very welcoming and knowledgeable. We cooked in a kitchen that was large, airy, spotless and light filled. It was a beautiful atmosphere and with ten people in the kitchen it was still a hands on personal cooking experience. All the techniques we learned can easily be applied at home with step by step recipe instructions that we took home with us along with containers of the beautiful food we had made together. It was such a lovely day. I’m looking forward to going back there to do another Indian cooking course with a different menu on offer with Tanya. Diana.
  • 5/5 from Marine Oussaiden, attended Sep 2023: The class was truly amazing. Everyone got to participate, Tanya gives the science behind what we’re doing and quizzes us which makes it really entertaining. I have done a lot of cooking classes but this one really stood out and got beyond my expectations. I will definitely come back and totally recommend.
  • 5/5 from Janice Bale, attended Apr 2023: What a fabulous afternoon. Very gracious, engaging and experienced host/teacher who shared her time between the six of us. A lovely venue, beautiful grazing platter for us enjoy, fabulous recipes and so much to learn about new ingredients and history of recipes.
  • 5/5 from Catherine Fouche, attended Feb 2023: Tanya was so warm and friendly, felt like part of the family when we left, the lessons were informative, well instructed and with practice tips to make sure we were able to replicate the dishes once we got home.
