Course Structure
Our Bartending Course combines flexible online learning with practical, hands on training. Complete the theory modules online at your own pace before attending practical sessions in either a working hospitality venue or our dedicated training facility.
This blended learning approach allows you to immediately apply your knowledge in a realistic bar environment while developing the practical skills and confidence employers value.
Session 1 – Spirits & Distillation
Build a strong foundation in spirits by learning how they are produced through distillation. Explore the major spirit categories, production methods, flavour profiles, and how different ingredients and ageing techniques influence the finished product.
Session 2 – Spirit Tasting & Product Knowledge
Develop your tasting skills through guided spirit tastings. Learn to identify aromas, flavours, and styles while building the confidence to recommend products and answer customer questions professionally.
Session 3 – Beer Knowledge & Guided Tasting
Discover how beer is brewed, explore its history, and learn about the world's major beer styles. Guided tastings will help you recognise flavour characteristics and confidently discuss beer with customers.
Session 4 – Beer Service Skills
Master professional beer service including pouring techniques, correct glassware selection, presentation, tray carrying, beer storage, and responsible service practices.
Session 5 – Behind the Bar Essentials
Step behind the bar and put your product knowledge into practice. Learn bar setup, workstation organisation, equipment use, bottle displays, hygiene standards, service styles, and cocktail fundamentals. Prepare a range of classic cocktails while developing essential bartending techniques including shaking, stirring, measuring, free pouring, and garnishing.
Session 6 – Practical Bartending Skills
Refine your practical abilities through supervised service drills in a realistic bar environment. Develop speed, consistency, workflow, teamwork, multitasking, and efficient drink preparation while working under realistic service conditions.
Session 7 – Customer Service & Sales
Customer service is reinforced throughout every practical session, with this module bringing everything together through realistic role plays and service scenarios.
Learn how to communicate confidently with guests, manage busy service periods, recommend beverages, increase sales through professional upselling, resolve customer concerns, and deliver memorable hospitality experiences.
Please note: Our comprehensive Customer Service Excellence course is available as an optional add-on during checkout for students wanting more advanced customer service training.
Session 8 – Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
