Creating wooden homewares using sustainably sourced timber is our passion. Here at Black Wattle Woodshop we use traditional carving tools to create bespoke wooden spoons and homewares.

Our love of woodworking was sparked during a camping trip, while carving a spoon from a fallen black wattle tree. Using a pocket knife and a hook knife, each of us carved a spoon from the greenwood. This took both Steve back to woodworking classes at school, and some very fond memories. Not long after returning from that trip, he built his own workbench and started collecting tools. Shelves to create a small workshop followed. Catie then found the courage to build her own bench, her first ever build and one she is still proud of today. Their woodworking has taken them in different directions, but they both agree, sustainability is the driver for all projects.

The timber used is sourced from sustainably forestry, small pieces which are usually unusable by furniture makers or from fallen trees. Wherever possible, we will use secondhand tools rather than buying new.

Catie, our workshop teacher is a qualified Secondary Science Teacher. She has combined her love of teaching and woodworking to create workshops in hand carving.
