Mixed Media Mark Making Workshop

Introduction to Unorthodox Mixed Media and Mark Making

5 hours Class size 1 to 10 guests

$295 - $300 ($300 per guest when you book for 1 guest, $295/guest for 2+ guests) (Afterpay & PayPal Pay in 4 available)

Over five hours, artist Samantha Gardiner will guide you through an exploration of mixed media as a process of layering, disruption, and discovery — allowing the history of the work to remain visible rather than covered up.
This is not about perfect finishes or polished outcomes. It’s about trusting intuition, embracing texture, and letting the artwork reveal itself through doing.
You’ll be guided through collage, mark-making, paint, and textural techniques that encourage freedom and risk-taking while gently shedding old narratives about how art “should” look. We’ll work from instinct, respond to what emerges, and learn when to add, remove, and most importantly, stop.
This workshop is ideal for artists who:
  • crave a looser, more authentic approach to making
  • love texture, layers, and mixed materials
  • feel stuck, overthinking, or overly precious with their work
  • want to reconnect with process as much as outcome
You’ll leave with a resolved mixed-media artwork to take home, renewed confidence in your creative voice, and practical tools you can return to in your own practice.
All materials provided. Suitable for beginners through to experienced artists.

5.0 (3)

Samantha Gardiner is a Macedon Ranges mixed media artist whose work celebrates texture, layering and lived history. She embraces the imperfect, revealing process, repair and raw edges. Working with mixed media, Samantha finds beauty in the overlooked, transforming the worn and weathered into poetic works of feeling and form.

Her technique of adding and removing layers of mixed mediums, including; ash, paint, plaster, wax, collage and her homemade charcoal sticks (made from her own orchard prunings!) result in a rich painterly understory that adds depth to her celebration of line, movement and subject matter — be it representational or abstract.
Samantha`s art has a distinct energy and style that gives voice to how she interprets and responds to everyday life. She spends her days enjoying nature`s vibe and honing her art practice from her studio in the Macedon Ranges, traditionally known as Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung country, Victoria, Australia.
