Food has always been a huge part of my life. I grew up surrounded by the flavours and traditions of Sri Lankan cooking, where the kitchen was the heart of every gathering. Some of my earliest memories are of watching family members cook big meals and learning that food wasn’t just about eating – it was about bringing people together.One of my biggest inspirations is my mother-in-law- Nanny Saro. She has an incredible way of making everyone feel welcome through her cooking, and many of the dishes we create today are inspired by her recipes and the warmth she shares with others. She is also our head chef at Lankan Tucker.Growing up in Australia while being deeply connected to my Sri Lankan heritage gave me a unique perspective on food. Over time, I naturally began combining both influences – the bold flavours and traditions of Sri Lankan cooking with the relaxed, approachable style of Australian food culture. That blend is what inspired our café, Lankan Tucker in Carlton.Teaching cooking workshops has become one of my favourite parts of what we do. I love helping children feel confident in the kitchen and showing them that cooking can be fun, creative and something anyone can enjoy. By sharing the techniques and stories behind the food, I hope to create an educational experience that makes cooking approachable and exciting for everyone.At the end of the day, my goal is simple – to bring children together through food, just like the meals I grew up with.
