Leather Pirate Hat Workshop

Make your own real leather Pirate Hat.

7 hours Class size 1 to 4 guests

  $320 (Afterpay available)

I am going to take you through the full experience of making your own leather hat from start to finish. We'll begin by talking all about working with patterns and considering design choices, then move on to a discussion about the different types of leather and their various applications. From there, we get to the fun part of cutting out all the pieces, punching the stitch holes, and stitching the hat together. The session covers the use of a variety of easily attainable hand tools and a foundation of skill-building that will give you a great primer for going on to make any additional leather projects in the future.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a considerable amount of stitching to complete for this project. There is a very high likelihood that at the end of the session, there is still a portion of the work remaining to do. You will be sent home with all the materials you need to complete it yourself, and I am completely confident that you will have enough mastery of the stitching skills by that point. That being said, you can always contact me for further assistance outside of the class session.

5.0 (1)

I have been working with leather for almost ten years now, and leather-making has been my full time occupation for the last six years. I make custom pieces for the cosplay and LARP communities, as well as selling over the internet.
I teach small classes in my workshop at home as well as larger ones at the Raretrades Centre in Ballarat. I am very enthusiastic about sharing this craft with people regardless of experience. I work with those new to leather-making, those who have already done a little bit themselves, and also those who want to really further their skills.
I have a strong passion for completing this craft with hand-tools as opposed to a lot of the modern conveniences that many people are turning to nowadays. There’s no laser cutters or 3d printers in my workshop. I feel this is important for keeping the hobby accessible for everyone.
On top of all that, it’s important for me that I can create a safe, enjoyable place for people to take a day out from the craziness and enjoy themselves with good company, learning a craft with their hands.
