In this comprehensive leathercraft course, you will learn how to create your own Kelly-style 25cm leather bag from scratch. This course is designed for beginners who want to learn the essential techniques used in traditional leather bag making.
During the first five sessions, we will focus on the fundamental preparation skills needed before constructing a leather bag.
These sessions will cover:
  • Practising how to cut leather accurately using a leather knife
  • Learning how to apply bonding glue thinly and evenly
  • Using a creasing machine to mark clean stitching guidelines
  • Learning proper skiving techniques to thin the leather edges
  • Understanding how to create stitching holes using a pricking iron punch
In session five, you will learn and practise the traditional saddle stitching technique, an essential hand-stitching method used in high-quality leather goods.
From session six, we will begin the actual cutting of the leather pieces for the bag. Your teacher will guide you step by step throughout the process, so even beginners can feel comfortable and confident.
After cutting the leather pieces, we will also learn about:
  • Different types of reinforcement materials and how they are used in bag making
  • Cutting reinforcement materials
  • Bonding techniques used in leather bag construction
  • How to use pricking irons to prepare stitching holes
  • Continuing the saddle stitching process as the bag structure comes together
Although the course is structured as 13 sessions, everyone works at a slightly different pace. The class will continue until your bag is completed, and no additional charges will be applied even if extra time is needed.
If you are able to do some stitching practice at home, it will help the class progress more smoothly.
Throughout the course, we will guide you carefully so you can enjoy the process and successfully complete your own handmade leather bag to take home.

I've been interested in leather crafting for almost 15 years now. During a tough period when I was struggling with depression, I found myself spending a lot of time at home. Wanting to overcome this difficult time, I started thinking about what I enjoyed and wanted to do. I remembered how much I loved studying Textiles in University, and I realized that I really enjoy creating things with my hands.
I started making small cushion covers and reupholstering furniture, and eventually, I decided to try making something out of leather. I bought small pieces of leather and started making simple items. I learned a lot from YouTube and through my own experimentation, and I quickly became passionate about leather crafting. It helped me to completely overcome my depression.
As I was able to design my own patterns and create the leather items I envisioned, I felt so happy and fulfilled. I wanted to share this joy and happiness with others, which led me to start teaching leather crafting classes.
