Maureen Williams Glass is a glass blowing studio in St Kilda, creating glass for the home and artworks. Maureen is an established Australian glass artist with 40 years of experience. She has created works for galleries and commissioned custom design works.

Maureen completed her Bachelor of Arts in 1986 majoring in hot glass. When the Meat Market Craft Centre opened with an access studio for glass blowing she worked there for a period of time before deciding that her practice had grown and she needed her own studio. In particular she had been invited to participate in an Australia wide travelling exhibition Symmetry: Crafts Meets Kindred Trades and Professions, and needed space to construct a large sculpture for this.

In 1993 she purchased a building in St Kilda and set up her workshop.
In 1996 she was awarded an Australia Council Grant for New Work to facilitate the building of some new equipment and make large hand painted vessels for a solo exhibition in Munich, Germany, in 1997. This consolidated her career as a glass artist.

In the same year she had her first solo exhibition in Australia at the George Gallery in St Kilda. One of these works were purchased for the National Gallery of Victoria.

Making these large works allowed her to bring together a team of five glassblowers on several occasions. This is the heart of making glass – collaborating and working with your peers.

Over the ensuing years she exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions in Australia and overseas and her work was collected for both public and private collections in these arenas.

She has undertaken Artist in Residence programs at the ANU, Canberra Glassworks and in New Zealand, studied and assisted in workshops in the USA, sat on the board of Craft Victoria for five years and was president of Ausglass (the association of Australian glass artists) for three years.

She has had a full and rewarding career for which she is very grateful and has formed countless connections and friendships with passionate makers like herself - the art of glass is truly a team effort.

Such a fun and informative class and a great way to spend the afternoon. We all produced 2 beautiful glass items- a paperweight and an ornamental bauble. Michelle, our teacher provided great instruction and support whilest we learnt how to use the tools, Maureen, the owner was friendly and informative and Harriet the dog was super cute, and provided lots of cuddles.
I'll definitely be back to build on my skills and play with beautiful molten glass again.

Absolutely wonderful experience with Maureen and Melissa. We had been looking forward to doing this since Chirstmas and it was well worth the wait.

Expert care was taken into preparing us for what was in store in the workshop and I felt fully supported in my first time in a hot shop. The class was light-hearted, informative and fun and the chemistry between the two expert glassblowers was a joy to be a part of.

There was enough guidance to keep you safe but also enough freedom to allow you to feel in control of your emerging artwork. I had to earn my pieces and work for them but never felt in over my head.

An incredible ratio of 4 students to 2 teachers was a real stand out in my class today. It was intimate, full of laughs and generous in length.

I would absolutely do it again and highly recommend this to anyone looking for a truly unique and exhilarating experience.

An incredibly fun and engaging class.
Maureen and Michelle were so good at their craft, excellent teachers and very forthcoming with their knowledge and experiences along the way.

We would be back there in a heartbeat for another class in the future.

This was my first time trying out a glassblowing workshop and it was so facinating. This was truely an eye opening experience learning how molten glass can be manipulated to make a beautiful end product. I got to make a bauble and a paperweight. Michelle was so through in teaching and was there with me hands on with every step. I would definitely reccomend this workshop, it feel soo good working the molten glass with different tools and Michelle makes sure your final product is looks good. I had an array of different pieces of glass to add color to both my glass ornaments. Thankyou so much Michelle and Maureen; they are two very lovely people i had the pleasure of meeting.

My partner was interested in glassblowing and after watching many episodes of “blown away on Netflix” I decided to book a beginner class for us to try.
So we booked “Maureen Williams glass” with Maureen & michelle. It was an absolutely fantastic experience. The ladies were very informative and made the experience a fun learning activity. Really easy instructions to follow.
Highly recommend giving this class a go. Thanks again ladies, we had a ball and won’t forget this lifetime experience. Just amazing!
