Musical Theory Workshop Holiday Program

There is an upcoming Beginner Music Theory workshop during each school break on Tuesday, Week 1/Week 2, 1:30 - 5:30pm (depending on which class has more students) (online live stream available, materials will be emailed to students in advance); 3-5 students per class, break and snacks will be provided. This class is designed for students with no prior or little knowledge of music theory who are willing to learn musical theory and might plan to take the AMEB examination. It will provide a fundamental understanding of music theory and support students' musical journey up to Grade 6 level. In this workshop, you will gain a solid understanding of rhythmic fundamentals, notation, intervals, key signatures, and more. You will receive a meticulously prepared booklet and worksheets to help you. Feel free to bring a personal notebook for your notes.

Class Overview:

Session Length: The course spans a 3-hour instructional block, supplemented by half an hour to an hour dedicated to queries, discussions, and worksheet activities.

Curriculum Highlights: The educational program is comprehensive, encompassing critical theoretical components such as:

• Rhythmic fundamentals and notation
• Stave/staff and bar notations comprehension
• Leger lines introduction
• Delving into time signatures and the Circle of Fifths
• Mastery of intervals, along with tones and semitones
• Exploration of key signatures
• Dynamics, articulation, and musical expression
• The lexicon of tempo and articulation in Italian terminology, ranging from adagio to presto
• Basics of anacrusis and the construct of tonic triads
• Transposition and change in Keys
• Musical Form

The instructor leading the class is a professional music teacher specialising in piano instruction. Alongside regular sessions, the teacher conducts theory classes during each term break. Fluent in Mandarin, English, and Cantonese, the teacher is well-equipped to accommodate diverse linguistic needs.

Supplied Materials: Participants will receive a meticulously prepared booklet and worksheets.
