What you'll do
Join us for an exclusive, hands-on two-day course where you'll design and grow your own mycelium lampshade!This unique experience combines sustainability, innovation, and creativity, making it perfect for eco-conscious makers, interior design enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a one-of-a-kind DIY project.Join Aliet from Umbrellus for a deeply immersive, two-part series where you’ll design and grow your own sculptural lampshade using mycelium—the living root structure of mushrooms and hemp. Together, we’ll explore what it means to work with materials that grow, breathe, and return to the earth.In the first session (2nd August), you’ll shape your own unique mycelium piece using a curated set of reusable moulds, natural textures, and earth-friendly tools. You’ll learn how to care for it over time, allowing it to take shape in your own space.In the second session (23rd August), you’ll bring your piece back to Space2b, where we’ll host a living exhibition featuring each maker’s design alongside the latest pieces from the Bior Illume collection. We’ll reflect, share process, and celebrate the quiet beauty of regenerative design in community.

Aliet Bior
Born in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Aliet Bior is the founder of Umbrellus, a social enterprise that designs sustainable mycelium shelters and lamps. Her work is rooted in resilience, inspired by her mother’s strength, and driven by a mission to empower women through dignified spaces, environmental care, and regenerative design.
