  • 5/5 from Sian Hudd, attended Jul 2026: My daughter's and I loved this class today. After our introduction we had to smell all the different top, middle and base notes to choose what we prefered. Then step by step worked through out combinations to make our perfume. Jasper was really helpful in helping to balance the scent. Thank you!
  • 4/5 from Pradyumna M Vatula, attended Jul 2026: Sam ran an excellent session about the construction of a perfume. She's clearly very knowledgeable and she used her knowledge to put forth a very enjoyable session.
  • 4/5 from Guna Segar, attended Jul 2026: We loved the experience, something different. I bought this as a present for my friends 50th and three of us attended the class. First impressions was that there was very strong smell of perfume oils in the room, I thought I would not be able to stay in the room for long because of that. Couple of small windows were open, but maybe better ventilation needed. But then 2h passed and I was fine. The teacher was informative, learned a lot of new things about perfumery. Then the interactive part was cool too- we chose from base, middle and top oils and teacher always came and asked about our choices and gave some further info and also gave us some interesting facts about different scents, like Oud and Musk. Lot of scents were quite strong though and it was hard to choose and the top and base scents were not that nice - maybe its because of not being used to them. But middle scents had a lot of great variety of fruit, etc - so I loved those. For final mixing experience, that was interesting too, not 100% happy with my final perfume - maybe some more guidance would have been good. But my friend was very happy with her perfume. One small note- one of my friends had an allergic reaction - its wasnt strong - just red marks on neck. So try on your hand first. But overall great entertaining and educational class.
  • 5/5 from Sarah King-Smith, attended Jun 2026: Fantastic class, a whole world of perfume that I knew nothing about. Jasper is a great guide and was incredibly patient with all my questions and changed. Walked out with a scent that I love. Great way to spend the afternoon!
  • 5/5 from Paula Power, attended May 2026: Great!! Our teacher was amazing - knowledgeable and patient!
  • 5/5 from Kira, attended Mar 2026: Teacher knew lots of knowledge about the scents and the science behind the perfume. It was a great experience. We smelt each scent and chose 3 of our favour, combined the best scent of top, middle and base nose to make a 10ml perfume. The collaboration between making the perfume with other people to see if they smells match or are different.
  • 5/5 from Melissa Moss, attended Feb 2026: I took 2 of my adult daughters and we all found this course so interesting and deeply engaging! Jasper was so welcoming, unbelievably knowledgeable and honestly very supportive and encouraging to trust our own preferences, and only guided when pleaded with. It was fascinating and we all came away with a beautiful perfume and so much more than we thought possible in terms of knowledge and inspiration. Highly recommend!

We will be back for more sessions and perfume making. Thanks so much Jasper and Perfume Playground!

  • 5/5 from Mary McNicoll, attended Feb 2022: This was a great experience and a fun way to spend Sunday afternoon. Learner a lot about scents. Bubbly and quality nibbles were an unexpected bonus.
  • 4/5 from Julia Raffaele, attended Jan 2022: Was a fun class, nice afternoon to meet new people and learn about perfume making located at a beautiful venue. It is very much an intro class, too whats involved. The teachers were there helping out a cheat sheet to smells that go together would have been helpful in saying that though, its meant to be experimental to your choice so it might defeat the purpose. I had a nice time, went by myself and felt very included in the group and I would recommend to friends to go.
  • 5/5 from Shelley Sun, attended Nov 2021: The experience was really really good. I've organised this event for a group of my girlfriends (20 ppl) as a celebration for getting out of lockdown since we haven't seen each other for some time. The venue was great, the teachers were really professional and helpful. We were all really pleased, even those that didn't actually make something that they would normally wear, they were all really pleased with the whole experience.
  • 5/5 from Tj Carroll, attended Nov 2021: I has so much fun participating in the fragrance workshop, Samantha and her team are such a pleasure to deal with, and so helpful. We hosted the workshop as a drop in style format which was part of a larger event, and it worked exceptionally well. From the get go Samantha was so passionate about ensuring everything was perfect, and it was. The workshop was enjoyed by all sexes and ages, I can 't wait for another client to pitch the workshop for. LOVED IT!
  • 5/5 from Mariela Diaz, attended Nov 2021: Great class in a lovely venue. Broad range of high quality materials. I Love my new scent!
  • 5/5 from Michelle Fielden, attended Aug 2021: Fantastic class on all things perfumery. Absolutely wonderful to learn the history of perfume creation and how to make your own special blend
  • 5/5 from Holly Windisch, attended May 2021: My Mum and I loved this experience. Educational, super engaging/hands on and alot of fun.
  • 5/5 from Nathan Shoemark, attended May 2021: Great incite into the perfume world. Presented well with good one on one assistants when needed
  • 5/5 from Genevieve Dolan, attended Apr 2021: Sam and Maggie were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable. I attended on my own and I felt completely at ease from the outset. The location was spectacular (views over Melbourne CBD and beyond!) and I learnt so much about how to make / measure and test options for making my very own perfume. I had a brilliant time and I’m looking forward to signing up for the master class!
  • 5/5 from Felicity Tsiang, attended Nov 2020: What was the teacher like? They were really nice! My friend and I were quite indecisive but they were super patient with us, which I appreciated a lot :) How was the venue? It was really nice and fitting for the class. The atmosphere was nice and it had a lot of ventilation in the room so we didn't feel too stuffy. If materials were provided, did you like them? Yes, definitely learned a lot about new scents and fragrances. Was the class good value for money? Yes! Just wish that it was a little bit longer (we did go a bit overtime) so that we could play around a little more. What did you do / learn? We learned how to mix and blend certain scents together to make a perfume.
  • 5/5 from Victoria Shubenina, attended Jun 2020: We had great time. The instructor was very experienced and patient with our group. There was a lot of oils to choose from, so we all created a very nice perfume that we took home.
  • 5/5 from Genevieve Giraud, attended Dec 2019: Great discovery with clear explanation from Samantha. Great to see and smell the outcome of perfume from natural oils.

Perfume Playground is an award-winning Australasian fragrance house founded by perfumer Samantha Copland in 2016. From our Melbourne and Auckland studios, we create fragrances for brands, people and spaces, and share the art of perfumery through welcoming, hands-on workshops.
Our approach brings together Scent, Soul & Science: technical knowledge, curiosity and the personal connections that make fragrance meaningful. Our fragrance work received Bronze in the Floral category at the Clean & Conscious Awards.
Samantha studied natural perfumery with Mandy Aftel and holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Psychology. Her further studies span aromatherapy, Asia-Pacific native plants, flower essences and cosmetic formulation. A love of botanical ingredients and a decade of creating fragrances shape the way we teach: practical, thoughtful and full of room to experiment.
Our workshops are guided by professional perfumers who help you discover the notes you love, understand how they work together, and refine a fragrance that feels like you. You don’t need any experience—just curiosity. Whether you’re joining with friends, celebrating a special occasion or exploring a new creative interest, we’ll make you feel at home in the scent studio.
