Finding inspiration in the local landscape: the shapes of trees,
reections in the Yarra River, quality of light, depth of shadow, Esther creates textured and layered paintings. Using water colour
and oil paint to visually explore and express the landscape while
capturing her experience of being in it. Some works are inspired by
Impressionist painters others are more experimental in nature:
examining the boundary between representational and abstract ideas.
Recent works are based on water colour sketches that are worked into larger compositions. She also paints portraits and still life compositions.
Esther has been the finalist in a number of Painting Competitions including the Rick Amor Portrait Prize, the Maldon Portrait Prize and the 9x5 Landscape Prize.
Esther has exhibited with various groups in Melbourne as well as
Rotterdam and Hanoi. Recently she held her first solo exhibition in Maroondah Federation Estate.
Esther has been teaching water colour painting for 8 years and loves seeing people discover the magic that occurs when pigment and water hit paper.
