Our Malaysian Favourites Cooking Class

Learn how to cook our Malaysian favourites!

3 hours Class size 5 to 10 guests

After 10 years living in Kuala Lumpur, it was hard to choose our favourites but these two are always winners.
On the menu:
  • Curry laksa (laksa lemak): A Peranakan classic. Noodles, prawns, and fish cake in a rich, coconut-based broth layered with Malay, Indonesian, and Indian influences. We’ll show you how to build your own laksa paste from scratch—bold, fragrant and perfect for entertaining.
  • Beef in sweet soy (daging masak kicap): Tender beef slices simmered in a spiced sweet soy with a hint of coconut, influenced by Indian Muslims in Malaysia. A deceptively simple dish that can be on weekday rotation or elevated for impressive entertaining.
We will guide you through how to cook these authentic Malaysian dishes so you can leave with confidence to recreate them in your own kitchen!

At Cook Studio, our aim is simple: to help people feel confident in the kitchen and cook better food at home.
Our classes focus on practical, everyday cooking skills — from essential techniques through to impressive, dinner-party-worthy dishes. Whether you're learning the basics or expanding your repertoire, we want cooking to feel enjoyable, approachable, and something you can confidently recreate in your own kitchen.
Cook Studio is run by a mother-daughter team, Jane and Annalise, combining a shared passion for cooking with experience in teaching, hospitality, and food.
Jane originally began her career in industrial law and HR before following her passion for food and education. With a Masters in Training and Development, teaching has always been central to what she does. Over the years, that passion moved into the kitchen, leading her to write a cookbook, run cooking classes overseas, private catering, write a food blog, and qualify as a nutrition coach.
Annalise brings a background in café management, hospitality, and events. Following in her mum’s footsteps, she has a genuine love of cooking and experimenting in the kitchen. She’s always testing new recipes, playing with flavours, and finding ways to make cooking both exciting and accessible.
Together, we’ve created Cook Studio as a warm, hands-on space where people can learn new skills, ask questions, and enjoy the process of cooking.
We love teaching because there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing someone master a new technique and realise that cooking can actually be fun — not intimidating.
Our goal is that everyone leaves our classes feeling more confident, inspired, and ready to cook great food at home.
