What you'll do
Patching uses fabric scraps to mend holes and strengthen threadbare clothing to make it last longer.In this class you’ll learn a variety of methods for sewing and patching by hand, including DIY iron-on patches and secret (discreet) patches. This class will focus on creative, visible mending – for maximum fun and ease of learning – but you’ll learn how to apply methods learned in this class to create invisible or blended mends, too.Skill levelBeginner-intermediate. No mending experience is required, and the class can be made more challenging for experienced menders.Tools and materials Mending supplies will be available for purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own. Students will receive a list of recommended supplies upon booking.What to bringClothing, tea towels or fabric for patching practice. All ages, genders and abilities welcome!At SOSU, we believe that sewing is a wonderful life skill, and we want to share it with you. Learning how to alter and mend the things that you have as well as learning the skills to create your own gorgeous garments will help you to be more creative and sustainable. We offer a wide range of full and half-day workshops or ongoing courses that will build, refresh or consolidate your sewing skills. We have a great mix of beginner and skilled sewists of all ages learning at our school.We can also arrange private lessons for those that learn better one-on-one. When it’s just you and your teacher you can really tackle that special project with confidence.Our back story: The School of Sewing & Upcycling was established in 2015. Set up in a small shop in Buckley Street, Footscray, where Gaye (the original owner) and her team shared their love of sewing with aspiring and experienced sewists alike.In February 2023, Zoë took over the business from Gaye (who still teaches) and in May 2023 SOSU moved into their current home in Whitehall Street, Footscray.Zoë and her team of friendly and skilled teachers look forward to welcoming you (or your ClassBento gift recipients) into their space to unlock creativity, develop sustainable habits, and master skills that will last a lifetime!
